West Point Marches to Affi rmative Action
T
he U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York, can continue using
its af irmative action policy to decide admissions.
Judge Philip M. Halpern of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York rejected a request to halt the academy’s ability to factor race in its admissions process.
Students for Fair Admissions, which
won two challenges to the Supreme Court in June against af irmative action at public and private universities, is heading the legal challenge. Whites constitute 51.7% of the Army’s

Redistricting Pay Day
T
wo consultants hired to analyze new legislative boundary lines in
Wisconsin after the state’s Supreme Court tossed the current Republican-drawn maps are being paid up to $100,000 each
in taxpayer money. Wisconsin is one of more than a
dozen states wrestling with challenges to redistricting maps that were redrawn following the release of the 2020 U.S. census and first applied to the 2022 elections. Court challenges could result in new
U.S. House and state legislative maps before the November election. A Wisconsin court ruled in December that the current legislative maps are unconstitutional because many districts aren’t contiguous. It ordered that either the Legislature pass new maps that Democrat Gov. Tony Evers is willing to sign into law, or the court will proceed with adopting its own map.

Willis Gibson of Oklahoma gasped on a Dec. 21 livestream as he realized he’d reached level 157, crashing the classic game that for years many only thought went to level 29. “I can’t feel my fingers!” For most of the game’s history,
bill to ban oil and gas production within a mile of schools and day
care centers across New Mexico is among proposals that could bring a major overhaul to energy regulations. Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham
directed the state Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department to develop a “robust” set of proposed reforms to the New Mexico Oil and Gas Act, which regulates production of the two fossil fuels.
The results of that process will also include the establishment of setbacks from hospitals, medical facilities, multifamily housing, single family homes, and water bodies statewide.
even the most dedicated players believed level 29 was the highest achievable goal, Popular Science reported. At that level,
the falling blocks started moving so fast that it became too dif icult to keep moving pieces side to side with the controller. The Tetris Co. confirmed that the
young gamer was the first known to have reached the “monumental” level of the game that was developed in the Soviet Union in 1984 and introduced to the U.S. four years later. Tetris CEO Maya Rogers called
Willis’ victory a “monumental achievement.”
