WHY MUST I SUFFER? Recently, I read a letter from someone to your magazine who needed opioids for pain control. I am a 100 percent disabled veteran suff ering from combat injuries and Agent Orange toxicity. I need pain medications daily. I’ve never taken more than what’s prescribed. I’ve also never committed a crime. Despite my record and my needs, my doctor recently cut my pain medication by two thirds. Why? The “Opioid Bill” that protects the spoiled rich kids who are abusing pain medications. Yet, my doctor ignores my suff ering. (“Marijuana Nation,” November). steven bennett Noblesville, Ind.

‘AI’ A THREAT TO US ALL Discussions about artifi cial intelligence (AI) bring up the compelling, critical topic of future economic growth. How many positions will be eliminated or how many working hours potentially will be reduced as the result of this technology? AI is an innovation severely impacting earning potentials and living standards for workers across the economy.

Lifestyles across the classes will decline. Foster policies to ensure this doesn’t occur and exponential job growth can still occur. (“Robot America,” October 2017). joan miller Las Vegas, Nev.

GOP SHOWED WEAKNESS In not shutting down (Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller’s) probe, Republicans showed weakness. No wonder so many Americans, including myself, support Donald Trump. He is not afraid to tackle the “politically correct.” Mueller is both laughing-stock and poster boy of what’s wrong with government (“Revealed: A Secret Plan to Destroy Trump’s Presidency,” June). w. andrew confer Round Rock, Texas

WE MUST ALL VOTE I hope that U.S. citizens make the eff ort to vote in the next elections. Just like my fellow citizens, I’m not satisfi ed with the direction our nation is headed, especially when it comes to healthcare. Frankly, the 2018 midterms were a clear choice between those who have never had it so good and those who know we can do better. (“2020 Shaping Up as the Nastiest Campaign Ever,” November). joe bialek Cleveland, Ohio
