IN MY VIEW 2

016 is looking to be an interesting and busy year for the Highland commercial property market, and for Allied Surveyors Scotland. In the agency department of the firm, although only in March there has already been the conclusion of a number of transactions, including disposals of office accommodation on behalf of clients to Birchwood Highland, Children 1st and Life Skills Centre. The firm have also been appointed to acquire office and industrial accommodation on behalf of a number of national organisations. In the valuation department, thanks to extensive panel appointments, valuation instructions continue to increase with the past 6 months having seen the firm carry out valuation work from Shetland in the North to Fort William in the South and from Keith in the East to the Isle of Skye in the West. 2016 already has some interesting events on the horizon, with both the Scottish Parliamentary elections and the Referendum on membership of the European Union looming large in the second quarter of the year. Both these events could have implications throughout the Scottish commercial property market, although it is undoubtedly the EU Membership Referendum that could have

the most far reaching impact. Should the vote on whether to leave or not be looking like a close decision, we would anticipate an investment and acquisition slowdown in the time leading up to the referendum in a similar manner to the markets approach to 2015's Scottish independence referendum.
