ENERGETICA – SCOTLAND’S ENERGY CORRIDOR

create a world-class development corridor that is internationally recognised as the location of choice for high value oil and gas and renewable energy organisations, and a first choice for organisations of all sizes operating in other high value, quality, niche markets. Developed in late 2007, the programme is managed in partnership by Scottish Enterprise, Aberdeenshire Council and Aberdeen City Council. A global showcase for energy

technology development and energy efficiency, Energetica aims to create an exemplar and innovative, sustainable development corridor. Operating within a stunning natural and built coastal environment, Energetica seeks to integrate two key components – sustainable economic growth and quality of life. The Energetica corridor stretches over

30-miles from Bridge of Don in Aberdeen, north to Peterhead and west around Aberdeen International Airport. It is becoming a leading destination for innovation, knowledge, learning and skills in current and future energy generation, hosting the organisations and research institutions that will collaborate to meet the world’s energy challenges. Significant investment in transport

infrastructure, ready access to energy industry know-how and an established supply chain are among the reasons that Energetica is an attractive investment opportunity. Additionally, with the heads of terms for a £250million Aberdeen City Region Deal agreed, alongside a further funding commitment of £254million from the Scottish Government supporting further investment in innovation, internationalisation, digital connectivity and infrastructure, it is an exciting time for the North East region, and Energetica. Key Projects Aberdeen International Airport is one of the best connected regional airports in the UK, with 25 hub departures every weekday. It was announced in February 2016 that the airport is to undergo further transformation, in what will be the single largest investment since the current terminal opened its doors in 1977. A total of £20million will be invested in

the airport resulting in a 50% increase in the size of the terminal building and with it, a comprehensive transformation of current passenger facilities. Included within the investment is the creation of two new passenger lounges, an expanded baggage reclaim area, a new security search area, new immigration facilities and new retail and catering facilities within the main departures lounge. The first phase of what will be a three

year project will get underway in May 2016. This will involve the construction of a two- storey extension to the south of the existing terminal building. At ground level,

the extension will accommodate all facilities for international arriving passengers as well as domestic baggage reclaim. Two business lounges will be located on the upper level. Improving connectivity between the Energetica corridor, the wider city region

and the south of the city, work is underway on the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/ Balmedie to Tipperty (AWPR/ B-T), a £745million roads project which is due for completion by winter 2017. This key infrastructure will improve traffic flow, shortening journey times and opening up new growth opportunities. Peterhead Port, at the northern gateway

to the Energetica corridor, is making a considerable investment in new and improved infrastructure to support both the fishing and energy sectors. Peterhead is one of the UK’s most versatile ports, providing exceptional all-weather, congestion-free deepwater berthing facilities at depths of up to 14m and serving a broad range of industries including oil and gas, renewables, fishing and leisure.
