ago by their longstanding rivals Whitgift.
The Surrey school turned in another fantastic all-round performance with national success in sports ranging from rugby union, hockey and table tennis to swimming and cricket.
Millfield finished just behind in second while Guildford High School maintained their excellent leading all-girls’ school status in third.
Derbyshire’s Repton School completed another great year in fourth, just ahead of another all-girls institution Putney High School, who turned in their finest showing to date in fifth.
While some schools may have been adversely affected by the shutdown of certain events, others surged up the new table.
And topping the state school performance ratings for the first time were Buckinghamshire’s Dr Challoner’s Boys School, who made the top ten in eighth, just ahead of Devon’s Ivybridge Community College in ninth.
Two other state schools – Yorkshire’s Wade Deacon High School in 14th and Thomas Telford School in 20th – also made the top 20.
And while independent schools dominated the top 20 with 16 out of 20 places, state schools performed admirably overall with 92 of them taking their place in the top 200 in this Covid-reduced year.
