Top 200 schools
It may have been a sporting year curtailed by the coronavirus – but it hasn’t stopped School Sport Magazine’s exclusive top sports schools list from being published.
And to celebrate the exceptional work carried out by schools all over the country, we have decided to bring out our first-ever top 200 list.
For the first time, state schools are battling it out with their independent rivals on the same list (just as they do on the sports field), rather than publishing two separate top 100 lists.
Putney HS U13 tennis champions
While certain summer sports such as athletics didn’t make it off the starting blocks and others like cricket and tennis were sadly abandoned, dozens of national age group events did go ahead.
So 18 different sports and more than 100 different events were more than enough to celebrate the sporting achievements of the hundreds of schools that take the competitive game very seriously.
Where national finals were called off, schools have been rewarded for reaching the latter stages, irrespective of there not being one winner.
And in sports such as cricket, schools have been compensated with points for qualifying for their respective national competitions.
In an exceptional year, Millfield School have been usurped at the top for the first time since the list was first publishing eight years
