Treasurer’s report for the 2019 AGM reporting on the fi nancial year ending December 2018

The Association’s fi nances continue in good health as shown

by the fi nancial statements and the statement of the external examiner, SBCA Chartered Accountants. At the end of 2018 AFT had a surplus of over £56,000, giving the association a strong fi nancial base going forward. An important factor in the surplus was that the 2018 conference broke even. The association continues to have healthy reserves and we need

to be clear about their function and the importance of maintaining a healthy reserve. Last year I alluded to continuing uncertainties and potential structural changes to the organisation: these included uncertainty about the future of the offi ce base, possible developments in relation to the website (currently hosted by Wiley) to make it fi t for the future, and the forthcoming appointment of a chief executive. The board was delighted to appoint Dr Reenee Singh to the role

of chief executive and she started her work part time in September 2018. Suzanne O’Connor also started in the part-time post of

executive assistant in October, overlapping with Sue Kennedy in the lead up to Sue’s retirement. Uncertainties continue and despite a fi nancially strong year costs

need to continue to be tightly controlled. The offi ce in Warrington is being restructured and there are transitional issues as new arrangements bed in. Discussions continue about developing a new website that will be fi t for the future and there is likely to be further restructuring associated with this. I would like to thank all those members who assist the association

on a voluntary basis and thereby contribute to the fi nancial health of the association: without you the association’s costs would signifi cantly increase and your voluntary work keeps AFT going (and subscriptions down). I would also like to express special thanks to Paul Kennedy for his work and commitment over the last 12 months. If there are any questions on the accounts, please submit them

in writing to mail@aft.org.uk by 1 September so that answers can be given prior to the AGM.

Reports from the chairs of AFT committees

Registration committee report for 2019 AFT AGM T is has been another busy year for the registration commit ee

and we have been fabulously supported with the management and administration of the commit ee by Melanie Wood, our AFT regulations offi cer and by Sue Kennedy up to her retirement. Melanie has done an amazing job in keeping all of our commit ee member volunteers informed and on track with the varied work of the commit ee. T is includes processing the UKCP membership applications and CPD requirements and issues for AFT systemic psychotherapy members, plus the applications for members who wish to join the AFT list of approved supervisors. None of this would be possible without the generosity, experience and rigour provided by our commit ee members who currently are: Gary Robinson, Gill Wallis, Angus Crutchfi eld, Ros Draper, Judith Lask, Myrna Gower, Denis Lee, Mary Morris, Mary O’Neill and Paul Anthony. Barry Mason and Jan White are panellists who also support in the review of applications.

Context 164, August 2019 During the last year we have wished Kyla McKillop, Sue Jones

and Isobel Riley well, in leaving the commit ee and have thanked then for all their support and time, along with Sue Kennedy. As many AFT members will know Sue and Isobel have contributed greatly to the work of AFT over many years and have helped to shape our organisation. As has Judith Lask, who has helped the registration commit ee greatly since the last AGM, by acting as chair up until the end of 2018. Judith has helped us all with her wisdom, experience and knowledge and continues to do so. Judith has been particularly supportive to me in helping me to understand the role as a new chair, including the connections with the various commit ees and networks within AFT, UKCP and beyond. In 2019 we have also elected the fi rst vice chair of the registration commit ee who is Gill Wallis. It has been great to be able to work and learn alongside Gill, with the support of the rest of the commit ee. T is year we have approved 76 new applicants for UKCP

registration. Not all applications for registration are approved, T e 61
