CRAFTBUTCHER l JUNE 2019 23 MEET THE 2019 RURAL OSCARS BUTCHER CHAMPIONS


The Awards are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of rural produce, skills, enterprise and heritage through our small hard-working businesses. They are now in their fourteenth year and have become the definitive rural business award to win. This year there were over 17,000 nominations, meaning these champions truly are the best of the best.


Countryside Alliance Awards Director Sarah Lee commented: “This year’s butcher champions are all truly exceptional. We have been overwhelmed by nominations this year. The secret to the Rural Oscars’ popularity is that they honour the people involved in these businesses and not just their produce or services. They exist to sing the praises of


those who work hard to keep our communities and rural economy ticking, but don’t seek the spotlight. These awards provide a cause for celebration in a time of great uncertainty in the countryside. Our local produce is second to none and there are many community heroes and businesses worthy of national recognition.”


Our special congratulations go to NCB member Kendall’s Farm Butchers of Harrogate.


Awarding Yorkshire’s finest the judge commented: “A butchers that ticks all the boxes. It is at the heart of its community, selling genuinely locally sourced meat and has lovely, knowledgeable staff. It is situated at the far end of the high street – traditionally the most difficult place for footfall - so it is testament to their popularity that they are such a thriving, popular shop.” n


The national winner will be announced on 19th June and we are keeping everything
