PRECISE RATION FORMULATIONS IN NEW PIGLET DIETS ADD
TOGROWTH RATES Cargill UK has launched a new range of piglet diets, Neopigg®
Max that uses
precise ration formulations to match the nutritional requirements of the modern pig from four days old to 18kg liveweight. Results from extensive UK on farm trials show improvements in growth rates of up to 21% in the first 12 days post weaning compared with former Cargill standard diets.
The range includes 13 dry diets; a
pre-starter diet to encourage intake and prepare piglets for weaning, followed by first, second and third stage diets - aptly named as Start, Gain and Advance - to maximise post weaning growth. Diets are flexible and work together seamlessly to drive growth at each stage under a range of systems. “These new diets take advantage of

WEANER PIGS Evonik has launched a new standardised ileal digestibility (SID) database for swine feeds which, for the first time, provides SID values of all amino acid for weaners, as well as for grower pigs. The new information means that feeds formulated specifically for weaners will no longer need to be based on digestibility data from growers, which should more closely meet requirement and result in enhanced performance, as well as reduced nitrogen excretion. The Evonik Swine SID Compendium
(2018) provides up-to-date SID coefficients for all essential and non-essential amino acids for 73 different ingredients used in grower feeds, and 43 ingredients used in feeds for weaner pigs. The data is based on numerous scientific studies and publications. “This new data will mean that feeds

on UK pig units, involving 5,000 piglets, have compared the Neopigg®
Max diets
with Cargill former standard diets. “Our results have been conclusive in showing improvements in post-weaning growth rates where the new Neopigg Max diets have been fed.” Increases of up to 21.3% in average
daily weight gain were recorded when Neopigg®
Max Start was compared with
the standard diet from day five to day 12 post weaning. Piglets then fed on the Gain and
Advance diets from day 12 to 23 days post weaning increased weight by an extra 11% and 6% respectively. Overall, piglets grew up to 707g more - or an extra 39g a day - in the 23 days post weaning when fed on the Neopigg®
Max diets compared with the
standard diets. “These new diets take piglet nutrition to the next level,” adds Ms Lord. “It provides a solid nutritional foundation and drives the return on investment from pre-starter and starter diets.”
Sales Animal Nutrition. Nitrogen release by production animals
is directly related to excess crude protein in the diet and the digestibility of amino acids. Concern over the environmental impact of nitrogen has led to increasing scrutiny by governmental agencies. “A greater understanding of the
digestibility of different amino acids at different ages could help us to minimize the amount of nitrogen being released into the environment,” says Petri. “In addition, it has the potential to
reduce the amount of crude protein in the diet, and thus reduce feed costs.” The Evonik Compendium has SID
coefficients for the amino acid content of 73 ingredients used in feeds for growing pigs, including 10 cereals, 14 cereal byproducts, six pulses, six brewing and distilling products, 18 oilseeds and meals, 13 animal and milk byproducts, and six other feedstuffs. For weaned pigs there is data on 43 ingredients, including nine cereals and cereal byproducts, two pulses, two brewing and distilling products, 13 oilseeds and meals, 13 animal and milk byproducts, and four other feedstuffs.
