AJINOMOTO ANIMAL NUTRITION EUROPE LAUNCHES AJIPRO®
-L, RUMEN PROTECTED LYSINE, IN EU
-L formulation with non GMO raw materials and is now available for European markets. • AjiPro ®
• Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition Europe have developed a new AjiPro®
-L is a rumen protected lysine based on an Ajinomoto
patented technology combining a double rumen protection (coated matrix = internal matrix + external protective layer) and some additives to maximise intestinal digestibility. • AjiPro ®
protection of 80% and intestinal digestibility of 80%, resulting in a total bioavailability of 64%. Feeding 100g AjiPro-L delivers 25g of digestible lysine to the cow. • Use of AjiPro ®
where 70% of herds balancing ration with rumen protected lysine are choosing AjiPro-L (for more information visit www.
ajipro-l.com). Ajinomoto decided it was time to make it available in
-L contains 40% L-lysine with a documented rumen -L can be associated with increased productivity,
improved Income Over Feed Cost and increased efficiency in lower protein diets with less nitrogen excretion.
Opportunity for the dairy industry Matthieu Rolland, Ruminant Development Manager EMEA shared his vision of opportunities offered by the launch of AjiPro®
-L in Europe. “Traditionally protected amino acids are tools for productivity
or feed optimisation with great benefits on farms but they can deliver broader value to the dairy industry. Today the livestock sector is under pressure, dairy is no
exception. As an industry we need to consider how we can help farmers tackling some sustainability challenges such as nitrate formation in ground water, ammonia emission and farm revenue. I believe that protected amino acids are part of a solution
where farmers can adapt their production system, increase efficiency and comply with regulation. For example, AjiPro®
-L can
be used to reduce protein level of the ration without detrimental effect on performances while decreasing nitrogen excretion in milk and environment. We validated it during a trial at ILVO Belgium Research Institute; this opens new perspectives for ration optimisation!”
History & Development AjiPro®
-L Generation 1 was launched in US in 2011 and
Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition Group continuously upgraded product characteristics with smaller particles size and higher bioavailability until Generation 3 was released in 2016. Evaluated by Universities and trusted by nutritionists, AjiPro®
-L 3G strongly
contributed to develop usage of rumen protected lysine in dairy rations. AjiPro®
-L is now undisputed leader in North America
other major dairy production area. It required two years for the company to select non GMO material, scale-up from lab production to industrial volumes and validate that the new AjiPro-L formulation delivers the same efficacy. Matthieu Rolland provides more details “It has been an exciting journey and we are very enthusiastic to bring a product with already demonstrated value for the dairy industry. We followed a rigorous development process to ensure that AjiPro®
-L EU has the same
characteristics as in US and we also wanted to validate its application in European dairy systems. We collaborated with EU research institutes who confirmed rumen protection and intestinal digestibility. As a final validation, we also conducted test in commercial farms.”
Practical applications Usage of protected amino acids may change depending on local context, ration profile or farmer objectives. Clément Cirot, Ruminant Nutritionist EMEA explains: “In Europe, most people use protected AA as additives and choose a top-feeding tactic with an objective of productivity. We tested this approach in commercial farms and observed different response depending lactation stage. With 45g AjiPro®
-L on-top, milk production
increased by 1.5 to 2 kg for groups of cows below 120 days in milk and by 1kg milk in herds with average 160 days in milk. Energy level of the diet also has an impact on the magnitude of the response”. He points out that “Similar improvements can be achieved with a smaller investment if AjiPro®
-L is not used on-top but
together with a reformulated ration. It’s a concentrated source of digestible lysine that saves space in the ration and gives flexibility with other feedstuffs. During our tests, farms who selected this reformulation tactic generated higher Income Over Feed Cost; on average, farms who reformulated with AjiPro®
-L increased it
by 33 euro cents per cow per day.” The company has announced that AjiPro®
-L EU is now
available from Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition Europe in France and UK and from its agents or distributors in the rest of Europe. Contact :
