Users will have access to a full month’s agenda of physical and mental wellbeing classes and educational training, including fitness and yoga sessions. Seafarers can also log their work and rest
hours, and if they feel stressed or unwell there is a live SOS function which provides immediate access to the Seafarers Help Live Chat, which is free, confidential and available 24-7. On a practical level, the app tackles the problem of storing seafarer documentation in one place, as well as providing a link to trade union Nautilus with details of membership, news, and training opportunities.

he purpose of Yacht Knowledge is to familiarise crew with the vessel
and her safe operation. Through short regular tests sent straight to their mobile phones, crew make themselves familiar with all safety critical operations, systems and equipment, adequately preparing them to carry out their work in a competent manner. Crew will need to reference, read and understand the vessel’s existing SOLAS and SMS manuals to answer a series of technical vessel specific questions. Accidents caused by human error can be reduced by senior crew identifying gaps in knowledge and training from their crew’s test results. Confidence in reaction times during critical situations is built up through physical familiarisation testing, using 120 Near Field Communication tags attached to vessel equipment.
