Give your skin an energy boost

During these cold winter months banish tired looking skin and maintain the perfect complexion

T

he winter weather might be giving your skin some trouble so your skin needs some TLC, a lift and some protection.

Water Important for your general well being, but did you also know that not drinking enough can weaken your under eye skin causing bags and more wrinkles… tiredness will also be visible through dried and chapped lips.

Exfoliate

This should be part of your regular beauty routine, twice or three times a week.

BOOST AND REJUVENATE CUT CAFFEINE

The average ‘half-life’ of caffeine is six hours. That means if you have a cup of coffee at 4pm, at 10pm it will still be swilling around your body. Avoid caffeine within six hours of bedtime.

SLOW DOWN

Relax: somewhere quiet with no work stimuli. Reflect: ask your ‘unconscious mind’ how you could’ve been more relaxed in the last day. Recharge: think about three instances when you can be more relaxed.

EAT GOOD FATS

Tuck into more avocados, olive oil, and grass- fed cows’ butter. Ditch your morning bowl of sugary cereal for eggs. Fresh vegetables are key to energy and wellness.

SMELL THE ROSES

Get out into the open air, no matter the time of year, wrap up and take a walk for 30 minutes and get some nature into your soul.

SLEEP WELL Nothing else will leave you as recharged. If

you need to, take natural supplements such as magnesium before bed.

GET SUPPORT

Talk to loved ones about how you feel and seek the support of your GP or a therapist if you need to.

F

Moisturise The golden rule for not looking exhausted in the morning is to moisturise at night. Reaching its highest temperatures overnight, our skin both loses and absorbs moisture faster and more effectively while we sleep. Use a hydrating moisturiser day and night to help combat dry skin.

Collagen The key to youthful looking skin, collagen occurs naturally in the skin, strengthening and firming our complexions. It’s nature’s way of

HANDY HINT TRY TO CHILL OUT

Store your morning beauty products in the fridge There’s nothing like the cold air hitting your face to wake you up. Plan ahead and place your facial moisturiser in the fridge just before you go to bed. Doing this will instantly eliminate puffiness and bring some colour to your cheeks.

ridding your skin of wrinkles. Excessive time spent in the sun, too much alcohol and a bad diet can add to the loss, but it’s possible to plump the skin with an extra hit of collagen and stop the ageing process in its tracks. This works for the boys too!

FROM THE INSIDE

oods that boost collagen production also help in keeping your body fit. Collagen aids in boosting metabolism and energy as it contains glycine that helps pump sugar into your body tissues to keep you energised. It also helps in muscle development.

Vitamin C Eat more foods with high levels of Vitamin C, an antioxidant that slows down the rate of damage caused by free radicals. Great sources are red peppers, raspberries, leafy green vegetables like broccoli and sprouts, tomatoes, oranges, kiwis and pomegranates.

Avoid sugary treats Not only will that sweet tooth pile on the pounds but it will speed up the ageing

process, causing the plumpness of a youthful complexion to age and wrinkle prematurely.

Add more antioxidants to your diet They help to fight off free radicals that cause your skin to age. High scorers are; goji berries, pecan nuts, artichokes, elderberries, kidney beans and cranberries.

Avocados

This mighty fruit is just packed full of goodness. Its oils will protect you against free radicals, whilst the omega 3 fatty acids will help to naturally boost the skin’s collagen levels.
