“Get Under Your Skin!” In 2006, I tried my first jar of NYR Organic Frankincense Hydrating Cream, never thinking 12 years on that a simple face cream would have had such an impact on my life! Joining NYR Organic as an Independent Consultant 5 years ago was my step in to a new world full of opportunity, full of new contacts and a wealth of information.
I had always thought that I provided my children with healthy lifestyles, cooking what I felt to be nutritional food, and encouraging physical activities. What else was there to know?
The message that stuck in my mind, was when our owner, Peter Kindersley, stood up at a conference and said, “Neal’s Yard Remedies is about organic farming…” – but surely Neal’s Yard Remedies is about beauty products? It was a true “light bulb” moment for me. With the Kindersleys also owning an Organic Farm in Berkshire, it very soon became apparent that Neal’s Yard Remedies was about “Beauty from Within”, a phrase, that today is sadly often used rather glibly and more as a marketing tool rather than to indicate the holistic roots of a company. The passion and the commitment of the owner was contagious and before I knew it I was passing on my knowledge of “organic” to my partner, despite the fact that for years, we had often chosen organic fresh produce wherever possible.
At last I understood why Organic was important as well as starting to see the potential impact of the “Monsanto Tomato” story on our future health! I stopped skipping those stories on my Facebook newsfeed and started taking interest, signing petitions against the re-licensing of glyphosate in weed killers and the need to ban bee harming neonicotinoid pesticides.
The idea that chemicals inside and outside of the home could build up in our bodies like a toxic cocktail made me question so much about our lifestyle.
I realised the true effect when my partner would suddenly suggest a different approach to something we did before I suggested it to him! For example, we have been making our own Organic Spelt bread for over 2 years now and use coconut oil for frying to avoid toxic aldehydes. In the home, we have ditched commercial dishwasher powders and most cleaning products in favour of making our own, with huge cost savings. We have added air purifying plants throughout our house and been careful to purchase cookware that is Teflon free when replacing cookware.
Now I am starting to understand more and more about “Natural Living” with much still to learn. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge regularly with my team at NYR Organics - Please do get in touch if you think you might like to join us!
