Feeling Good in The Third Trimester?

I hope the title doesn’t deter you from reading on! Perhaps you’re thinking “Pah feeling good..?” Are you at the stage when you can barely get off the sofa without your partner being a crane? Could my feet get any puffier? Not that I can see them!” I hear you and I feel it too as I’m expecting my second baby in June!

Here’s how we can get through it and feel good in the later stages…

Four Weeks until Due Date - Pregnancy Massage Pregnancy Massage techniques are designed to leave you feeling rested and relaxed. Using light sweeping pressure to relieve tension and nourish your body and mind, you can allow yourself to drift off in comfort. Ask your therapist to suggest a technique that your partner could practice at home – for example a foot rub.

Three Weeks until Due Date – Date Night This should be all about you. You are likely to be tired in the evenings, so reserve some time on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy each other’s company and a break away from “baby stuff”. Take the time to do something you might not be able to do for a few months once baby arrives for example the cinema, a favourite restaurant or a spa!

Two Weeks until Due Date - Visit the Salon Get some pre-birth preparation in! Pamper your feet with a pedicure, tidy up with a wax and get your hair cut. Time will be short after the baby arrives so do this now and it will guarantee you a ‘feel good’ afternoon that will last.

One Week until Due Date – Unwind in The Bath It may be difficult to relax or feel comfortable, so a warm bath will help relieve aches and pains. It’s safe to use some essential oils such as Roman Chamomile (relaxes muscles, aids sleep), Sweet Orange (uplifting) & Neroli (promotes healthy skin, relieves emotional tension) so add a few drops to your bath and practice some hypnobirthing techniques to help you unwind. You can find a helpful list here www.mommypotamus.com/safe-essential-oils-pregnancy-breastfeeding

One Week past Due Date - Reflexology Daily texts asking if you’ve given birth yet? How frustrating! Put the phone on hold and book yourself a wonderful Reflexology session. It works to stimulate the release of “happy hormones” Oxytocin & Adrenaline to help bring on labour and will leave you feeling refreshed & relaxed.

Six Weeks after Birth – Me Time You may not have left your baby yet, but by six weeks you need to give yourself some time out from mummy-duties. Plan to do something that you haven’t been able to do in the last year. I’m sure you have a list, but some ideas would be meeting a friend for a glass of wine one evening or book a facial to replenish your tired skin.

Remember to eat well throughout your pregnancy with a rainbow of vegetables on your plate, and drink plenty of water.
