f my journey into plant and tool hire has taught me anything, it’s not to make


assumptions about hire companies. In short, even the smallest independents can still surprise, with interesting product specialisms and unique assignments. TRS ticks many such boxes – on the face of it, a tidy but diminutive depot with a handful of staff. Its functional website doesn’t quite hint at the mainstay of its business either, listing many of the usual hire items. Much of that is crosshired, as I discover, while the majority

I was at TRS to meet with Operations Director, Peter Gallagher – the connection made following a useful tip from Tom Page at Shindaiwa. Peter has a background in the sector, having worked his way up from hire controller to key account manager at some of the very biggest companies in hire. Finance and Commercial Director Gareth Morgan started out in hire too, but also has direct experience in the oil & gas industry. Let’s get started, then, how did their backgrounds lead to the formation of the company and the services it delivers?


“I was 18 years at Speedy,” says Peter. “The company had started to specialise and I worked in the industrial unit for eight years.


The move was mainly because I live in an industrial area, so it was a good fit for me. Gareth was working at AMEC’s plant division, and was a customer of ours. However, Speedy bought the division in 2007, so we became colleagues for a while.”
