MARKET REPORT MATERIALS HANDLING
Latest products Forklift Gains Traction
Hirers are finding an increasing market for Hinowa’s tracked forklifts, as companies seek to reduce manual handling during the lifting and carrying of materials in confined spaces. The Hinowa TP1600 has a maximum capacity of 1.6t yet its tracks can be set to just 1245mm wide, allowing it to carry palleted loads through narrow spaces, for instance down the sides of houses. Dave Cole, owner of Tough Plant Hire in Bordon, Hampshire, said: “Other machines with a similar capacity
are much bigger. The Hinowa tracked
forklift is tough and reliable. As a tracked machine, it’s also excellent over sloped and low load-bearing ground.” The range includes the TP1800 (1.8t) and the TP 2000 (2t), plus lifting accessories that include a jib that turns the forklift into a pick and carry crane.

JCB is launching updated 407 and 409 wheeled loading shovels to meet the latest EU Stage V emissions standards. Both loaders will retain the JCB Diesel by Kohler engine from the previous generation but fitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet the new emission level. The 407 will also be equipped with what JCB claims is a
‘whisper-quiet’ Rexroth hydraulic pump, to reduce overall noise. In addition, an Eco Drive Mode has been incorporated, delivering up to a 16% fuel saving even at higher speeds. For the 403 compact loader, JCB is introducing a 19kW
(25hp) Smart Power engine option, for those customers seeking the best possible fuel economy. A folding ROPS frame is also now available as an option on the 403, reducing the overall height of the machine from 2.24m to 1.85m, making it suitable for work in multi-storey car parks and in agricultural sheds.

Wienold Lift, represented in the UK and Ireland by Access Platform Sales, has introduced a bi-energy version of its GML800+ push-around glass lift. Power is provided by DC batteries or AC mains, lifting loads of up to 800kg to heights of up to 7.9m. Nick Rush, southern regional lifting manager at Speedy,
said: “Our customers like the versatility and load capacity of the GML800+. Lifting height is also very good. There’s nothing comparable on the market. “We supply them with a jib or forks and our customers
uses them for lifting steel and lintels, glass installation and lowering materials down shafts.” Bob Buss, owner of glass lifting hire specialist Trust in
Safe Hands, says: “The GML800+ has very good all-round performance. It’s easy to use and has great capacity. It’s ideal for glass installation because it can be positioned right up against the aperture.”
