Wacker Neuson’s new electric DW15e electric dumper became available in the UK during January.
1.0 tonne high-tip dumper increases overall machine width from 1,100mm to 1,300mm. Powered by a Yanmar engine, the new ‘wide track’ machine also has a superior ground clearance of 274mm. Thwaites will also be offering a wide track version of its 1.5 tonne payload compact dumper.
At the Show, JCB revealed a new wider track version of 1.0 tonne payload Perkins engined 1T-2 high-tip compact site dumper. The increased track width of 988mm (up from 850mm) to increase stability by 16% is part of a new Smart Safety package that also includes a tip-alert alarm and the ability to reduce maximum travel speed.
JCB’s optional Smart Safety pack for its 1T-2 dumper which includes a wider track and visual slope indication.
The tip-alert alarm utilises a visual gauge situated above the
main console, with a series of LED lights running from green, through amber to red. As the skip is raised or tipped, the system senses if the machine is leaning to the side or forwards or backwards, causing a potentially unstable situation. If the lights reach the amber stage, an audible warning is given to notify the operator, to either lower the skip, or move the machine to more stable ground conditions.
Another development with small dumpers will be more machines with the option of electric power. One now well proven electric dumper is the Ecovolve from Ballybrittas in Co. Lois, Ireland and the most popular 1.0 tonne payload ED1000 high-tip model was shown at the EHS by recently appointed UK distributor Compact Loaders UK of Chesterfield.
Unlike conventional 4WD articulated site dumpers, the EWD 1000 has a rigid frame and three wheels. The central rear wheel provides both drive and steering and, rather than having an operator’s seat, the machine is controlled by a person walking behind or standing on a fold-down platform. An optional Radiomatic remote control console allows the ED1000 to be operated from a distance.
Suitable for use on demolition sites, the heavy-duty ED1000 has a 5.0kW (7.0hp) electric drive motor. It is powered by a maintenance free 400Ah, 24V AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery system which, it is claimed, can cover a working day and be fully recharged in eight hours.
Wacker Neuson has now introduced its new 1.5 tonne payload DW15e electric articulated dumper in the UK. Available with either a high-tip or a swivel skip, this machine is powered by 48V 3 TCSV

Mecalac has developed this new 3.0 tonne payload dumper complete with a fully enclosed cab.
There are also 2020 improvements for 6.0 and 9.0 tonne payload Thwaites articulated site dumpers. These include Stage V emissions compliant Deutz turbo diesel engines, SAHR (spring activated hydraulic release handbrake), a new multifunction dashboard display, upgraded electrical systems and wiring, LED road lights, a new rear mudguard design and the option of a Trackunit telematics system that provides GPS immobilisation and ring fencing.

300 AGM batteries that are said to provide a run time (depending on application) between 3.5 and 6.5 hours and can be recharged in 8 hours. This company has been instrumental in getting larger capacity (6.0, 9.0 and 10.0 tonne payload) site dumpers with forward mounted cabs and 180° rotating seats and controls established in the UK with its Dual View designs.
Meanwhile, cabs are becoming more popular on more conventional articulated site dumpers with the seated operator facing forwards behind the front-mounted skip. More makers are now offering cabs on 6.0 to 10.0 tonne payload diesel engined machines but, at the Bauma and Plantworx exhibitions last year, Mecalac revealed that it is moving down in size by developing a cab for its 3.0 tonne payload 3MDX dumper.
With its 6.0 and 9.0 tonne payload 6MDX and 9MDX dumpers with fully glazed cabs now well established, Mecalac is also set to offer the option of MDX Canopy models. Complete with a windscreen and a canopy roof, these machines will slot in between the company’s ROPs safety frame and full cab models.
Other developments on larger sizes of site dumpers are being introduced by both JCB and Thwaites. The former used the EHS to reveal the prototype of its improved 9 tonne payload 9T-2 cabbed dumper powered by a Stage V emissions compliant JCB Dieselmax engine. A highlight of this machine is the new style forward tipping skip designed to enhance front visibility. This new type of skip will also feature on a similarly improved 6 tonne payload 6T-2.
