Purveyors of colourful lifting equipment - as seen in a vibrant display at the 2020 Executive Hire Show - GGR Group has recently moved into the electric vehicle space. Tierney Elliot gets a handle on the company and lifts the lid on its new telehandler.

Founded on an initial investment of only £5000, twenty-five years later GGR Group is now a well-established, £30 million operation, employing over 150 staff across their three depots in Oldham, Haddenham and Glasgow.

GGR Group has built an impressive reputation in the UK for its commitment to importing and introducing products from abroad, through particularly close relationships with suppliers in Europe, Japan and the US.

Typically, GGR Group strives to identify products that will bring something new to the UK lifting industry. New equipment is brought into their business early in the development process. This is so the products can be thoroughly tested and assessed to ensure their capability and suitability within the product portfolio. This includes the move towards more environmentally-friendly products to fulfill the ever-growing demand in this area.

The company was established in 1995 by brother and sister, Graeme and Gill Riley. Under their leadership, it has become one of the leading suppliers of lifting solutions in the UK. Shortly after being founded, GGR Group became one of the first in the market to bring glass vacuum lifters to the UK, which subsequently led to the development of the HOMER and the EMU glazing robots. At the time, these machines were recognised with the Quality in Construction award and a New Product Award for Innovation.

This isn’t the only time that GGR has been critically recognised for its commitment to the industry, however - in 2015, Managing Director, Gill Riley was presented with an OBE for her services to the construction sector, which served as an acknowledgment for pioneering the introduction of various lifting equipment to the UK market.

Following this, in 2016, GGR Group was given the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade, which accredited their successful business model of bringing in equipment from Japan and upgrading it for use in the European market, including meeting the requirements for CE certification, as the European Master Dealer for the Japanese

Most recently, the GGR Group has found itself working with Faresin Industries, adding the

Italian company’s new full electric telehandler (see panel) to the range. Due to its commitment to product development and extensive marketing expertise, GGR Group has been able to conduct a full product launch for the telehandler, including branding, a dedicated website, a launch at the 2020 Executive Hire Show and even a guided-demonstration tour - all delivered inside one month.
