upward trend since December 2017; values for February 2018 remain around 38% lower than in 2016. Public hospitals accounted for
the largest share of contract awards in February at 33%; followed by private hospitals with a 10% share; and surgeries, health and medical centres, at 7%. AMA Research records around
10 large NHS-led programmes currently underway. A spokesman said: “Going forward the
key construction opportunities in the healthcare sector are likely to be in the primary care sector – including GP surgeries and community health centres – and this may entail further opportunities for the development of hub facilities and
integrated GP premises. “In the acute and secondary sector,
much of the medium-term is expected to lie in refurbishment and extensions, with very few big new hospitals planned for development.”
Overseas opportunities But it’s not just the UK where there are opportunities to be had. Coming to the end of two decades of
significant investment in healthcare infrastructure; the UK has much expertise to offer overseas. Key markets are opening up in India,
China and the United Arab Emirates, while Denmark is currently undergoing the biggest building project since its 14th-century church-building scheme within the healthcare market.

• Creating healthy towns IBI Group has announced its continued involvement in the Healthy New Towns programme, helping to produce an official NHS guidance publication. The company will be contributing to the estates and digital workstreams aspect of the guidance in conjunction with The Kings Fund and the Town and Country Planning Association. The publication, due out next spring, will provide evidence-based guidance on how to create healthy neighbourhoods, towns and cities, particularly in places of population growth and new development. IBI Director, Mario Bozzo, said: “At IBI, we are bridging the gap between design and technology, especially in healthcare. Design partnership delivers cancer treatment breakthrough

roton Partners International has announced a new design partnership for all future UK projects.
The agreement is between the
subsidiary of Proton Partners International, Rutherford Estates, and DFJ Designs, a consortium of three architectural design companies – Desco, Fairhurst and JDDK – all of which have worked closely with Proton Partners International on the design of its oncology centres in Northumberland, Reading and Liverpool. building four UK oncology centres in total, the first of which has recently opened in Newport, South Wales. Each cancer centre will offer ground-
breaking beam therapy, a cancer treatment not yet available in the UK, in addition to conventional treatments such as chemotherapy, traditional radiotherapy, diagnostics, imaging, and support and wellbeing services.

Horbury Property Services has been awarded a three-year contract to undertake repair and refurbishment work for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
