his summer sees the return of the increasingly-popular healthcare buildings forum, a
two-day event giving healthcare product and service suppliers the opportunity to meet key decision- makers involved in the design and build of health and social care facilities. Organised by healthcare design &
management (hdm) sister company, Stable Events; the forum, now in its sixth year, will create a productive networking environment through which delegates can focus on creating long- lasting business relationships through a
Gaining an insight The speakers this year will include Stephanie Williamson, deputy director of development at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children; Simon Corben, director and head of profession for NHS estates and facilities at NHS Improvement; Paul Price, head of commercial consulting advisory at Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management; and Martha McSweeney, design director at Interserve Construction. McSweeney will be providing an
insight into the use of repeatable design standards, which can save healthcare providers significant amounts of money as well as maintaining quality across services. She said: “The presentation will show
how these standards are driving innovation and providing operational
efficiencies, while reducing healthcare associated infections. These standards are being further developed using feedback from a range of project delivery professionals.” In her talk, Williamson will be
explaining how the trust procured two complex projects at the world-famous children’s hospital; while Corben will lift the lid on how NHS Improvement can help organisations to deliver efficient, fit-for-purpose and affordable estates and facilities enhancements. And Price will describe an alternative
delivery model for EFM improvements. Also scheduled to speak at this year’s
event are John Kelly, director of healthcare planning at Essentia Trading, who will look at the drive to earmark spare and surplus estate and how it can be better utilised in the future; and Burkhard Musselmann, managing principal at Stantec, who will explore whether public private partnerships in the healthcare sector can be improved. Elizabeth Devas, design and
commissioning officer at MacMillan Cancer Support, will join forces with Guy Barlow, director of The Manser Practice, to consider quality and design in cancer care.
