Page 533. Create a visual representation of maths problems
Year 5 children are expected to work more confidently with equivalence including percentages. They can deduce facts based on their knowledge of shape and use and understand more complex language such as prime factors and composite numbers. The use of hands on resources is still vital and resources such as the Bar Model help to create a visual representation of complex maths problems.

Pupils should develop their ability to solve a wider range of problems, including increasingly complex properties of numbers and arithmetic, and problems demanding efficient written and mental methods of calculation.
