Cut or tear the paper... Look at the blank papier mache figure... 4 3

Decide before hand...
Step 1. Look at the blank papier mache figure and decide whether it’s going to be decorated using only the decorative papers or a combination of papers and acrylic paint (as seen in the animal figures!). For a neat finish paint any areas with acrylic paint and leave to dry before adding the papers.
Step 2. Cut or tear the paper into pieces, work with the pattern of the paper to pick
out ‘features’ or tear at random - remember every little piece of this paper can be used so save everything! Use a variety of colours and patterns to create stunning effects.

Step 3.Working on a small area at a time brush. Spread the glue evenly. The glue is transparent
once dry and creates a water resistant layer.
Step 4. Decide before hand whether you are using the papers randomly or creating a pattern. Press each piece of paper to the prepared surface, work over the top with another thin layer of glue smoothing the surface down as you work.
Step 5. When the surface is fully covered, leave to dry. Important - carefully apply 2 - 3 layers of the water based varnish (allowing time to dry between layers) to give a tough finish if you wish the sculpture to go outside! (Varnish supplied in Teaching Packs).
