These sets of cards are contextualised discussion mats based on common errors and misconceptions. The cards help to promote mathematical discussion around key concepts e.g. number, shape and space, measures and data handling. Ideal to use with the whole class for group discussions, on identifying who is right and wrong and explaining the reasons for their choices. This resource is also ideal for smaller group discussions to encourage the more reluctant of speakers to discuss their findings. Why not try asking the children to consider what resources, models, or images they might use to help the ‘imaginary’ children who were incorrect to develop their understanding further? Discuss It Maths enables teachers to promote mathematical discussion along with thinking skills and reasoning and for pupils to have an opportunity to use mathematical vocabulary in context.
