NEW revised problem solving cards tailored to the New Curriculum. The cards are separated into the individual year groups and written with all areas of the curriculum in mind. From number and place value through to measurement and geometry. They can be used in starter, group work or plenary and children can use them with each other as the answers on the reverse allow for checking. The content of the cards prompts children to talk around the subject, developing their fluency, reasoning skills and mathematical language. Each year group set is colour-coded and contains 100 laminated cards plus introduction card, size: L12 x W8cm, contained in a handy storage tin.

2 NEW Decodable Word Problems
Learning and applying appropriate mathematical vocabulary is an important skill. The 2014 curriculum states “pupils should read and spell mathematical vocabulary, at a level consistent with their increasing word reading and spelling knowledge”. Pupils also sometimes struggle with working out maths problems phrased in words rather than as standard sums, causing a stumbling block even when their underlying maths skills are good. What better way to practise word problems than by playing this fun matching game? Children decode the simple word problems, work out the correct answer and find the matching puzzle piece. The trickier maths vocabulary they encounter whilst playing is listed on the back of the box so they can learn these useful terms as they go along. All words used are selected from those learned by or at Phase 5 of Letters and Sounds.
