Focus on Industrial & Safetywear

Heat transfers work for workwear T

Decorating industrial workwear shouldn’t cause a headache. There are many methods and applications suitable for this. Here we focus on the benefits of heat transfer printing on industrial workwear and safetywear garments.

workwear and hi-visibility garments and here are the reasons why. If a builder has to wash his T shirt on a daily basis on a hot wash to remove any dirt or sweat then it is sensible to use a cheaper method of printing to add his company branding, as the lifespan of the garment will be shorter than say an office workerʼs shirt.

primary purpose of any waterproof or filled and lined garment which is to keep the wearer warm and dry when working outside in the cold and wet. Heat transfer prints are commonly used for very low production runs, including one-off prints which makes replacing worn out employeesʼ uniforms quick and easy. The many different papers available on the market can include a range of different textures and finishes, ensuring designs can look attractive. However, customers should be made aware that exact colour matches to logos may not be able to be achieved. Grafityp UK and Xpres are two such suppliers of garment transfer materials.

Grafityp UK

Thermoreflex Plus and Thermoreflex Extra from Grafityp UK are an ideal solution for garments that need to be highly visible. The materials are for computer cut designs using a vinyl cutter which are then applied using a heat transfer press. The material is silver in colour and is highly reflective, being EN ISO 20471 compliant. Thermoreflex Plus is suitable for application on to such fabrics as cotton, polyester or blends of these materials while

Thermoreflex Extra is designed for application on to nylon, polyamide or treated materials. Grafityp will gladly offer advice if you are unsure which product is best suited to your application.

Both of these products are washable 24 hours after applying. Workwear can sometimes display the company logo or name, such as on shirts, T shirts, pockets, caps, overalls, aprons, jackets and more. There are a number of suitable products in the Grafityp collection that could be used depending on the fabric to which it is being applied and they come in a wide variety of colours and effects as well as a range for printable transfers.

Xpres

Premium reflective XP3058 vinyl from Xpres features a 3M scotch line face film making it perfect for production of highly visible reflective logos on outerwear.

polycotton and polyester making it ideal for polo shirts, T shirts and hi-visibility clothing.

If decorators are looking for a reflective film specifically for nylon, Reflective XP3010 vinyl is ideal for application to uncoated nylon jackets, bags and umbrellas.

Both reflective vinyls are easy to use, durable and give a good quality finish. As with every decoration process there are some negative points. The heat transferred image is susceptible to fading and cracking after a number of washes, the setup costs make it non-viable for large production runs and the complexity of the image can be limited. Another method to consider is embroidery. This option provides longevity to a uniform, although the process comes in at a slightly higher cost to the customer. Embroidered logos generally last as long as the garments themselves and tend to look more formal and professional than a loud printed logo.

Screen printing should also be considered an option, but this only becomes a truly viable printing process on long runs.

Remember branded workwear not only brings consistency and unity among employees it also makes any company instantly stand out among the competition.
