Madeira UK Embroidery essentials

Embroidery is as popular as ever, featuring across a wide range of industry sectors. Synonymous with colour, style, quality and range, Madeira’s threads are used by commercial brands on everything from sports to fashion, baby wear to home textiles and are standard for branding, uniforms, corporate logos and promotional items. With this in mind it’s important to have the essentials to hand to cover all bases.

Reflex Cry

GS UK New Gunold threads

As the UK supplier of Gunold thread, GS UK has supplied the UK textile industry for over 30 years.

Throughout this time the company has seen many changes, the latest being a change in ownership at the end of 2019. As a result of this January 2020 saw the launch of newly designed threads and supplies catalogue.

The fresh new catalogue includes a brief description of each product and the innovative layout makes it easier to locate specific items.

A number of new products are available including Reflex Cry thread (a 30s weight thread). The composition of Reflex Cry is 70% glass beads, 17% polyamide and 13% polyurethane. The thousands of microscopic glass beads embedded in the polymer coating encase the polyamide core and as a result Reflex Cry reflects light in the dark. It uses the process of Retro-reflection which occurs when a reflective material returns the impinging radiation to the direction of the radiation source, largely independent of the direction of the reflector. This is particularly the case in the dark, therefore making it ideal thread for embroidering on clothing worn by those in the security and protection industry.

Using high quality thread is critical to keep machine downtime to a minimum and production at its highest. Classic and Polyneon threads can confidently be run at high speeds with minimal risk of thread breaks. Another must, is a good quality backing. Using the correct backing for the garment is essential to prevent puckering and distortion. Madeira offers an extensive range of stabilisers to pair with almost any fabric type.

Choosing the correct type of needle for the fabric and design can save you time and money. Selecting the right needle and regularly replacing them will prevent birdnesting, looping and damage to the garment. These essential consumables will assist you in creating consistently high quality, profitable results. Sustainability is key for Madeira’s products and production. Globally recognised standards of ISO 9001 and Oeko-Tex certification ensures we are always at the forefront of market demands. 100 years of investment and development has meant Madeira is a market leading modern and efficient thread manufacturing company, running one of the most high-tech and sustainable thread dye houses in Germany.
