Oeko-Tex adjusts governance structure amid stricter EU rules

O

eko-Tex has announced changes to its governance structure ahead of stricter European Union rules targeting greenwashing and sustainability labels, which came into effect on September 27.

The organisation said the changes are designed to meet the requirements of the EU Directive on Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (EmpCo), while also preparing for future regulatory developments.

At the centre of the reorganisation is

a clearer separation between standard setting and conformity assessment, with Oeko-Tex aiming to strengthen the independence of its certifi cation system. Measures include converting its existing GmbH into a public limited company (AG), introducing a new Statute of Independence and Independence Council, and establishing an anonymous whistleblowing system. The organisation has also introduced an accreditation agreement aligned with ISO/IEC 17065, alongside ISO/IEC 17025 accredited certifi cation bodies and a new decision-making structure

EPS helps MasterCut Tool develop scalable decoration strategy

E

ngineered Printing Solutions (EPS) has helped US precision cutting tool manufacturer MasterCut Tool develop a scalable DTO inkjet decoration strategy for its industrial tooling packaging. MasterCut Tool produces carbide cutting tools including end mills, drills and burrs, with every product shipped in a rigid plastic case featuring unique identification, technical information and regulatory markings.

With tens of thousands of SKUs and no shared artwork between products, traditional decoration methods including labels, pad printing and

screen printing presented challenges around cost, durability and setup. Working with EPS for more than a decade, MasterCut has adopted a two-tier DTO inkjet production model combining Fjet multi-pass systems for short and mid-volume runs with an XD70 single-pass platform for higher-volume production.

Michael Shaluly, president and CEO of MasterCut Tool Corp, said: “We carry tens of thousands of active SKUs, and every one of them needs its own part number, description, and warning on the case.

“There is no analogue process on earth that makes that math work.”

headed by a Board of Directors. Oeko-Tex said testing, auditing and certifi cation will continue unchanged for customers and partners, while the changes strengthen the demonstrable independence of its system. Dr Alfred J. Beerli, CEO of Oeko-Tex, said: “Consumer protection begins with trust, and trust only arises when what is claimed is independently verifi ed. With the new structure, we anchor this independence even more fi rmly and make it transparently verifi able for everyone.”
