Best Green Initiative PortAventura World

Plastic Free Oceans

PortAventura World in Spain is collecting 1kg of plastic from the Mediterranean Sea for each visitor to the park. In partnership with the Gravity Wave, an organisation working towards a plastic-free ocean, the resort aims to collect 10 tonnes of plastic, which it will then recycle. PortAventura has not said what it plans to do with the recycled plastic. “Today, for every visitor that enters PortAventura Park, we will collect, together with Gravity Wave, 1kg of plastic from our sea.”

Best Regional Park Emerald Park

As Irelandʼs only theme park and zoo, and with something for the whole family to enjoy, we have undoubtedly had the Irish nation screaming with excitement since we first opened our doors in 2010. Opening for business 14 years ago, we welcomed our guests to what was more reminiscent of an adventure park, rather than a theme park. Fast forward to 2024, we now offer over 50 acres of fun, with 40 attractions, 250 animals, and each year hiring on average 600 seasonal and 150 full time staff members. In 2015, five years after we welcomed our first guests, we opened not only our first, but Irelandʼs

first, rollercoaster. Naturally, being the sole theme park in the country, it was only fitting that the wooden structure take inspiration from the myths and legends well known in Irish folklore. Such came about the name, Cú Chulainn, derived from a legendary Irish warrior. The towering statue is an epic sight to behold when entering our park, and the coaster is well loved and known amongst the nation.
