Park Update

Rides Super Jumper that’ll have guests swept up in a stampede of leaping ostriches in the dunes! The land also includes a themed bazaar with themed games, shops and food and beverage areas. For those guests who do not quite meet the height requirements of the rides, there’s an activity trail and obstacle play equipment, as well as multiple photo opportunities too.

CW: Which elements of the Jumanji franchise are found at World of Jumanji? JB: World of Jumanji features many moments that guests who have seen Jumanji would recognise from the film franchise. You can take on the challenges of Dr Bravestone and Ruby Roundhouse characters or take a photo within the jaws of a giant hippo, like Jack Black’s character Sheldon Oberon who gets consumed by a hippo. Ostrich Stampede puts guests into the scene where the characters are caught up in a stampede of ostriches. There are also multiple references around the land, including recognisable themed vehicles, and if you listen carefully, throughout your adventure you’ll hear Jumanji field guide, Nigel, from the films!

CW: What were the main aims and priorities for the project? Were there any particular challenges you had to overcome? JB: The aim of the project was to bring the franchise of Jumanji to Chessington and to drive visitation to the park. The challenge for this new land was that it was to be built on a small picnic field with a challenging topography, and

there was a lot we wanted to put into the space. The Merlin Magic Making team - our in-house creative and project delivery experts - worked with architects, landscapers, and multiple specialists to maximise the usage of the land, making sure sight lines both inside and out of the area were considered, whilst ensuring those key moments made an impact, from walking into the land under the inversion of the roller coaster, to realising the sheer scale of the Jaguar Shrine.

CW: How have you ensured an immersive experience for guests? JB: World of Jumanji is one of the most heavily themed environments we have created at Chessington. During the design process we explored every part of the guest’s journey and ensured that each element we dreamt up stayed true to the world we were creating. The challenge was to ensure that once you are in the land, you do not see outside and therefore break from the thematic experience. Planting was key to envelope guests within the world. Over time this will only get better - and the ambition is to ensure we have a Jumanji jungle in the Surrey landscape of England!
