MARKET REPORT: NORTH AMERICA

Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse” Mickey and Minnie cartoons. Engineer Goofy’s train takes guests for a free-range trek through seamless cartoon scenes that star Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and even includes a quick dance lesson – from the ride car – with Daisy Duck. For Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Disney looked to its popular park in China, Shanghai Disneyland. When the park opened in 2016, guests began to race on stylized motorcycles with Disney’s fastest coaster to date, Tron Lightcycle Power Run. The success of the ride in China inspired Walt Disney Imagineering to create another “gateway” to the futuristic Grid from the popular TRON movie franchise. Randy Fox, Principal Show

Tron Lightcycle PowerRun

Lighting Designer for Tron Lightcycle / Run at the Magic Kingdom shared during the grand opening: “Adding a roller coaster, right here in the Tomorrowland, is the right thing to do. We know Tron will quickly become one of the most beloved attractions here in the park.” With its 48 in (122 cm) height

requirement, Tron is the perfect addition to the Magic Kingdom. Its unique coaster trains are made of ‘Lightcycles’ which are similar to traditional motorcycles. A unique feature of the new Tron attraction includes an accessible ride option as well. The last row of each train features a traditional two-seater ride car. Guests who may lack the physical strength to sit on the Lightcycle may choose to ride in the back row.

Super (family) hero thrills While Tron Lightcycle / Run takes guests for a futuristic sci-fi coaster adventure, a pair of Six Flags parks chose superhero lore for their newest coaster additions. Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags Fiesta Texas turned to Orlando-based ride design and manufacturer, Skyline Attractions, to provide an all-new family ride experience. The Kid Flash Cosmic Coaster opened in the fall at both parks. From Skyline’s line of P’Sghetti Bowl roller coasters, the Kid Flash family racing coasters twist and turn through their tight circuit. Named for one of DC Comics’ younger super heroes, Kid Flash appropriately has a 36” height requirement, and has quickly became a first roller coaster experience for Six Flags’ youngest guests.
