MARKET REPORT: LATIN AMERICA

coaster, the Tecuani Beast, with dark sections and an expedition setting. The complex will also house the Cirque du Soleil theater, with the unprecedented dinner show LUDO, presented on a 360- degree aquatic stage. While the Tecuani Beast and its many

records are not yet inaugurated, adrenaline fans can experience the Serpentikah, a roller coaster from the manufacturer Vekoma delivered to Aztlán Parque Urbano, in Chapultepec, Mexico City. The suspended roller coaster has 540 meters of track and reaches a speed of 17.7 meters per second, performing three inversions worthy of the expression “the soul leaves the body”. The roller coaster’s theme is related to the Mexican legend of Quetzalcoatl, from Aztec culture, offering a complete visual experience.

Established in the parks and attractions

sector, the XCaret group announced investments of US$700 million for the expansion of the Hotel XCaret Mexico in Cancun. This investment adds to the US$1 billion previously announced to strengthen the entertainment offerings on Mexico’s East Coast. Themed houses, swimming pools, water slides, and gastronomic experiences are some of the new features of the project, which also focuses on sustainability. Also in the Cancun region, Selvatica, from the Dolphin Company, launched the Sky Trail, literally taking adventure to another level. The new attraction offers the possibility of cycling through the air on suspended bicycles along a path through the treetops. There are also six zip lines along the route, which also include Tarzania, a human roller coaster, and the Bungee Swing, with a drop from a platform amidst nature. Another Mexican novelty last year was

the opening of the first Academi Kidzania, in the Riona High Plaza Shopping Center in Puebla. This is a new educational and entertainment space that opened in September, combining learning and fun, based on the STEAM methodology (science, technology, engineering, arts,

and mathematics). Academi offers workshops in seven areas, such as robotics, cooking, and entrepreneurship.

Brazil: the main Latin American market for amusement parks In Brazil, the parks and attractions sector continues to receive investments, encouraged by the continuous growth in visitation. According to the latest edition of the Sectoral Panorama, carried out by the two associations that represent the sector in the country, Sindepat and Adibra, Brazilian parks and attractions received 138 million visitors in 2024. The increase in visitation follows the positive moment experienced by Brazil on the international stage: in November, the country registered a record 8 million foreign visitors, or 45% more than the result for 2024. The data comes from the UN World

Tourism Barometer and places Brazil at the top of the global growth ranking, above any other destination. According to data from the Brazilian Central Bank, international tourism revenues grew by more than 12% in the first nine months of last year. In absolute terms, the US$ 6.6 billion in revenue recorded up to October represents the highest total volume since the beginning of the historical series in 1995.

More visitors, more parks and

attractions. The Sector Overview presented by Sindepat and Adibra last May identified at least 78 new projects in the sector. These projects total US$1.8 billion. Throughout last year, many of the ventures that were still in the planning phase when the Sector Overview was presented were completed. This is the case with the country’s

newest aquarium, in the iconic Foz do Iguaçu, AquaFoz, which opened in November. The project has 28 enclosures and a total of 3.3 million liters of water that faithfully reproduce freshwater and saltwater ecosystems with scientific and scenographic accuracy. More than US$ 26 million was invested in the aquarium, which combines research, education and conservation across its three floors. Also in Foz do Iguaçu, one of the most sought-after destinations for foreign visitors, the Iguaçu National Park delivers new attractions to its visitors every year, as part of a planned investment of more than US$ 110 million by 2030. A new restaurant, bike paths, revitalization of historical spaces, such as the Usina Space, and the opening of hiking trails, one of which offers the possibility of bathing in a waterfall on the São João River, are some of the new features delivered in recent months. Foz do Iguaçu will also be the location of the first
