At the opening ceremony, the announcement of Argentine Luciana Periales as the new global president of the IAAPA Council demonstrated attention to the region, whose growth was also evident in the “What’s New” video, which IAAPA traditionally presents at the opening of its main event, highlighting the new parks and attractions installed around the world in the last year. Brazil and Mexico are the main markets in Latin America, followed by Colombia, Chile, and Argentina. Although significant, these new developments are just a small sample of the sector’s real expansion in the region. A study released by IAAPA last September showed that in 2024 approximately 332 million people visited parks and tourist attractions, such as aquariums, zoos, family entertainment centers, and museums, in Latin America and the Caribbean. The sector’s impact on the region’s economy is approximately US$30.1 billion, with more than 828,000 direct and indirect jobs related to parks and tourist attractions. “Each ticket to an attraction activates a virtuous circle: artisans, producers, suppliers, and local communities find a source of growth in this industry,” explains Paulina Reyes, Vice President and Director of IAAPA for Latin America.
Mexico In Mexico, the Vidanta Group and its $1.3 billion megaproject, Vidanta World’s BON Luxury Theme Park, are scheduled to open in the second half of 2026. The world’s first luxury theme park complex, located in Nayarit/Puerto Vallarta on the Mexican Pacific coast, is under construction at an accelerated pace. Divided into themed areas with references to local culture, BON will feature 23 attractions, 25 restaurants and lounges, 16 premium shops and kiosks, and access to the BON Park Hotel, as it will be exclusive to hotel guests. Among the areas already announced
are Empire of Light, described as a land of “epic proportions” and “immersive entertainment,” and Land of Legends, where “the forces of nature collide in unforgettable ways,” according to information released by the Vidanta Group.
