Heading for new heights
Mack Animation tells Park World why elevating content, creativity engaged in the long-term
A
s one of Europe’s leading animation studios for cinema animated films and media productions for the attractions industry, Mack Animation is continuing to see significant demand for flying theatres - and not just in
established markets, but new ones too. To this end, the business has been busy working on projects for brand-new
attractions, as well as existing ones that want to produce new films. What has definitely increased is the demand for licensing of films. On the production side, we see more projects that are not produced for a specific flying theatre but for licensing in different attractions. There are now enough flying theatre attractions worldwide that licensing films
can be a business model. Cinemas that have started with their own film are also very interested in showing other films, especially for the local target group.
Diverse and daring Another trend we are seeing is that films are also becoming more diverse and daring in terms of content. It's great to see that the flying theatre format continues to develop. In terms of design, we are still in the early stages of this format. There is so much more to explore, and we are trying to go one step further with every film we do. Mack Animation is particularly excited about taking the next step in terms
of image quality and resolution. Especially in combination with the new LED domes, a huge increase in image quality is possible. We will be making our next films with a new multi-camera rig that allows
image resolutions beyond 10K and also uses a new quality level of lenses. The tests show nothing less than a quantum leap in image quality. In combination with the high contrast, luminosity and resolution of an LED dome, the image becomes so vivid that viewers feel like they can dive right into it. There is such a level of immersion that viewers are able to entirely forget that
there is a screen in front of them; it is akin to virtual reality without glasses. Even for audiences who are familiar with the flying theatre format, this will be a totally new experience, helping to maintain enthusiasm for the format.

Future-proof As things stand, the enthusiasm from audiences for flying theatres is unwavering. There is no denying that they are presently one of the top types of attraction across the world, but to ensure their continued success, we believe it is crucially important that the quality of both the hardware and the films themselves remains high and continues to evolve. At Mack Animation we always try to ensure that we are future-proofing
everything we do and producing films that will still be of exceptional quality in 10 years' time. We are currently in the production stages of two new flying theatre films and
in negotiations for two more productions. These are films for both stand-alone attractions and theme parks. While Mack Animation cannot currently reveal the content and themes, we anticipate that these films will go a step further than our previous productions in terms of creativity and technical quality, showcasing breathtaking locations and delighting their audiences.
