The sky’s the limit

Andreas Stickel, director of business development at Simtec Systems, tells Park World what’s happening in the heady world of 

A

s a leading customised flying theatre and simulator ride supplier for the attractions industry, Simtec Systems is seeing major demand for turn-key, high-quality solutions, including AV systems, screens and

media with flexibility in the size of individual flying theatre systems. Indeed, as more and more venues with limited space seek to offer guests the flying theatre experience, it has become clear that the element of flexibility is increasingly essential. Client demands have changed and new trends are emerging. In the past,

Simtec Systems has mostly sold the HEXaFLITE 72 system (with 72 seats), whereas we are now seeing a greater need for mid-size and smaller systems to fit into venues with smaller dimensions. There is no reason why venues with a smaller footprint should be limited; Simtec Systems has reacted to their demand and is providing the HEXaFLITE 2.0 system catering to sizes between 20 and 72 guests per platform. Building on this, Simtec Systems has even developed a HEXaFLITE mini flying

theatre system for four, eight and 10 passengers for venues with limited spaces, such as entertainment venues within cruise ships. These mini flying theatres can also be combined with each other for even greater flexibility, allowing us to meet clients’ individual requirements. For instance, a client might decide to install two systems – one for four passengers and one for eight passengers.

New heights Beyond seeing an increased demand from venues with limited spaces, Simtec Systems has found that clients are looking for the latest projection technique or LED screens to provide a first-class guest experience. In particular, the spherical LED screens are taking the flying theatre attraction format to new heights when it comes to quality and immersion. Of course, multiple elements must come together to create amazing,

immersive and memorable flying theatre experiences. Key to a successful flying theatre installation is the combination of a 6DOF motion system with a seamlessly executed media production that supports the capabilities of the

motion systems and is based on realistic flight movements. Unfortunately, however, this does not always happen and Simtec has seen even experienced media producers fail in the production of flying theatre movies. Bringing over 30 years of experience in the field of motion programming

and simulation, Simtec Systems always recommends to include the coordination and production of the media into our scope to guarantee that the media is making use of the full capabilities of our motion systems and is based on realistic flight movements. With more than 20 installations already in operation worldwide, Simtec

Systems is expanding its portfolio and is currently working to create a HEXaFLITE mini for 10 passengers for a European client, as well as a HEXaFLITE 48 for a client in China.
