Company Profile

“We exercise our technological capability combined with creative storytelling

to evoke emotions and constantly alter the feeling of our guests. That’s why we exist: to design technologically enriched, story-based experiences that trigger an unstoppable chain of emotions in digital life.” DOF Robotics has developed a service offering that is as varied as its client

base, aiming to revolutionise the amusement industry by producing high-tech, high-immersion VR and AR attractions, motion simulators and interactive VR games. Working from its headquarters in Istanbul, Turkey, and its US office in Los Angeles, the business delivers a one-stop-shop service for its clients, from project design to maintenance and training. It is this turn-key approach - coupled with DOF Robotics’ boundary-

pushing approach and commitment to innovation - that has seen the business installing its products in over 400 locations and 80 countries worldwide over the past decade. These include flying theatres, dark rides, immersive tunnels, panorama theatres, dome theatres, XD, and 4D theatres, VR and AR-based attractions, interactive simulations, interactive games and other customised types of simulation rides. Ilkan says: “We are a company that seizes every day as a new opportunity

to develop unique and extraordinary products that breathe life into entertainment venues and keep guests returning again and again. “We’re proud to have numerous patented simulation rides, machines,

amusement projects as well as thematic and technical designs, and our unique attractions combine smooth movements and stable synchronisation with unrivalled performance.” DOF Robotics’ confidence and pride in its products is clearly justified. The

business was the recent recipient of several international awards, including the IAAPA Brass Ring Award for the Best New Product for its Hurricane 360 VR. So, how exactly does DOF Robotics make sure that it is creating stand-

out, award-winning designs? Fundamentally, the company’s creations appeal to the emotions; this is how they strike a chord and stay memorable. It is an approach that is reflected in DOF Robotics’ recent re-brand. In November last year the business unveiled its new logo and slogan: ‘Engineering emotions’, demonstrating its dedication to using technical skill to speak to the human experience.

A new vision

Ilkan explains: “We’re an inspirational brand, as well as an engineering company. Our re-designed identity reflects our vision not just for ourselves - while representing our passion, creativity, expertise and dynamism - but also the attractions and amusement industry as a whole. The re-brand embraces the transformative nature of our industry and is inspired by the change we see in visitors’ emotions through creative storytelling when they are on a DOF ride. We have not only unveiled a new identity but we’re also asserting a new vision for the future of our industry.” With the re-brand and recent award wins helping DOF Robotics to make its

mark across the industry, the company is looking to the future, keeping a close watch on emerging trends and client requirements. “We are producing E2E solutions and listening to our clients’ requests,” says Ilkan. One particular trend which has drawn DOF Robotics’ focus is the

Digital Park Concept. The latest generation wants entertainment to be fast, educational, immersive and unique - and as a result we’re seeing the rise of ‘edutainment’. Combining education with entertainment, Digital Parks are also good examples of this concept. Ilkan elaborates: “Digital and theme parks are the most successful tools in getting

people to spend time in the fictional universes they admire. Their realism and engaging environments make dreams come true for fans of a fictional universe.”

FEBRUARY 2023 HURRICANE 360

DOF Robotics’ Hurricane 360 is a 4-seat model, 6-Axis Motion Ride with a 360-degree rotation capability, which makes it a 7DOF. The ride, which uses specially designed shoulder harness  impressive addition to the DOF stable, the Hurricane features regenerative servomotors, a motion control unit, six sensors for each axis, and special effects including water, rain, air blast, fog, and snow devices. With a 2.1 sound system quality, and VR or 3D Ride movies, the Hurricane showcases DOF Robotics’ signature fusion of excellence and versatility.

MONSTER JAM GRAVE DIGGER

A highly dynamic 6-seat motion simulator that offers a different range of movements including pitch, roll, and yaw, the ride simulator adventure, equipped with high-quality VR headsets and strong wind effects, enables guests to experience what riding a massive Monster Jam truck feels like. The 6 DOF stand-alone attraction is perfect for all kinds of indoor entertainment venues, from FECs to theme parks and shopping centres.

To that end, DOF Robotics has this year developed the unique Digital Park:

literally deliver an out of this world experience which enables visitors to step into space. As a character in a story, guests must fulfil the space mission they are given, during which they will experience a total of eight different areas - each one a specially designed simulator giving a uniquely memorable space experience. Ilkan adds: “Each simulator is designed in harmony with the scenario in terms

of theme and content to give the feeling of space travel. At the end of the 30-40 minute experience, visitors will have gained valuable information about the universe as well as enjoying a unique, inspiring space-themed experience. They will also have the opportunity to compete with two interactive games. “In the future, we may develop many other Digital Park concepts: Jurassic World,

Diving into the Deep Sea, Time Machine Travel, The Universe of Jules Verne.” It is evident that the Digital Park offers ample opportunity for the creation

of many exciting experiences, and as 2023 looks set to be a busy year across industry, DOF Robotics has even more planned. Ilkan reveals: “We are working on new IP-based products, because it goes

without saying that combining well-known brands with our simulators will enrich experiences. We’ve already launched Monster Jam Grave Digger and will have many more soon. Plus, on top of amusement attractions, DOF is also developing various R&D projects such as an Automated Mobile Robot(AMR) or Meta Bike with deep know-how.” Having experienced Monster Jam Grave Digger back in September of last

year at IAAPA Expo Europe, I can attest to it being an all-round gnarly ride - brilliantly bone-shaking, seriously immersive, exhilarating and a hell of a lot of fun. If that is anything to go by then we can expect great things from DOF Robotics in the year ahead.
