With less than three months to go until 2019 ends, the landscape of the park industry in the region is diverse says Astrid González Nariño


O


n the one hand, the end of the year emerges as a growth opportunity for Brazil, while Argentina still does not overcome the


tariff inconveniences to achieve both greater expansion and a renewal of equipment in its parks.


Brazil in high season The period between October and March is traditionally the most anticipated by the amusement park industry in Brazil. The decrease in rainfall and the arrival of sunny days increase the number of visitors. This year, industry executives are more optimistic in the


South American country, given the investments they have made thanks to government regulations that have allowed them to enjoy lower tariffs for the importation and renewal of equipment.


Some of the Brazilian parks have chosen to open only in


high season. This is the case of Veneza Water Park, which has been operating for 20 years in the Pernambuco region, which offers its services only between September and March. Felipe Andrade, director of the park, indicated that this model allows higher profits and a turnover of around USD$1.4 million per year. The president of Adibra (Association of Amusement Park


Companies of Brazil), Francisco Donatiello Neto, expects operators to exceed USD$ 390 million in revenue recorded in 2017. The manager said that entertainment ventures are


fundamental elements for tourism, and admitted that political- economic issues related to the acquisition of equipment, caused a reduction in the number of parks in recent years. In this regard, he said: “Our legislation determines that


the equipment of amusement parks is consumer goods and not capital goods. This causes a great impact on taxes and makes business difficult. That is a problem that the federal government is solving.” Donatiello recalled that because of this phenomenon,


several parks like Playcenter, in Sao Paulo, disappeared and declared: “Each region has its specificity in relation to the weather, the profile of visitors, but it is also true that
