l Año Nuevo llegó con una explosión de apuestas en Brasil que inicio el sector de forma contundente con la recaudación de US$324 millones para el Estado, por el derecho de operar en el sector de las nuevas “Bets”, tal como reportamos líneas abajo. Inmediatamente, desde el Gobierno del presidente Lula se dio a entender que haría todo el esfuerzo dar soporte a la legislación de casinos de juego que se encuentra estancada en el Senado esperando debate y votación por el Pleno.
Sin embargo, no todo es color de rosas en Brasil, donde el Supremo Tribunal Federal ha ordena a la Lotería del Estado de Río de Janeiro (Loterj) y al Estado de Río de Janeiro que dejaran de recibir apuestas deportivas (bets) o de cuota fija que provienen fuera de su territorio. Uno espera que este lio siga su curso, pero eso no va a detener el ímpetu del nuevo sector de apuestas en el país.
Ha sido un ano de expansión en la industria, con licitaciones venideras para casinos en Argentina y Chile, como se lee abajo. he New Year arrived with an explosion of betting in Brazil as the sector began strongly with Stat collection of US$324 million in operator permits for the right to operate in the new “Bets” market, as we report
below.
Following the official opening of the bets sector, the Government of President Lula made it clear that it would make every effort to support casino legislation that is stalled in the Senate awaiting debate and voting by the Plenary.
However, not everything is hunky dory in Brazil, where the Supreme Federal Court has ordered the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery (Loterj) and the State of Rio de Janeiro to stop receiving sports bets or fixed odds betting from outside their state territory. One hopes that this mess will run its course without much bother, Nonetheless, that is not going to stop the momentum of the new betting sector in the country.
It has been a year of expansion in the industry, with upcoming tenders for casinos in Argentina and Chile, as you can read below. And right now, we are getting ready to go on a trip to Barcelona where ICE 2025 makes its debut, with invitations from the usual global leaders anxious to show the best and latest on offer. Also, we have invitations from many new companies entering the land-based and online gaming industry. See you all there!

El miércoles (31/12) fue publicado en el Diario Oficial de la Unión de Brasil (DOU) las ordenanzas que autorizan a 66 empresas a explorar la modalidad de lotería de apuestas de cuota fija o apuestas deportivas – también llamadas “Bets”. Los operadores de apuestas solo podrán operar a nivel nacional con autorización de la Secretaría de Premios y Apuestas vinculada al Ministerio de Hacienda de Brasil De esta forma, ayer primero de enero de 2025 marcó el inicio del mercado reglamentado de apuestas deportivas en Brasil, la octava economía más grande del mundo. Las empresas que conforman el sector fueron seleccionadas luego de un riguroso proceso de autorización, que garantizó el cumplimiento de los requisitos técnicos y financieros. “Bets” sector begins operations under full regulations
On Wednesday last, (31st December), the Brazil’s Official Gazette published ordinances authorizing 66 companies to operate in the lottery fixed odds betting sector or sports betting – also called “Bets”, locally, and in this way, sports betting operators land-based and online will only be able to operate nationwide with official authorization from the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (Secretaria de Premios y Apostas - SPA), part of Brazil Ministry of Finance.
