l Sun International Group, notificó resultados financieros provisionales no auditados para el período de seis meses a la bolsa de Johannesburgo,
conteniendo detalle histórico de su filial Latinoamericana Sun Dreams para el periodo finalizado el 30 de junio 2017 sobre sus operaciones en la región. Según el reporte de Sun International, los ingresos
provenientes de Chile aumentaron en un 2% llegando a CLP106.000 millones (US$153,5 millones), mientras que el EBITDA disminuyó un 3% a CLP30.200 millones (US$43,5 millones). El Monticello se benefició por la apertura del centro de entretenimiento Gran Arena Sun Monticello, que ayudó a impulsar el ingreso de clientes en un 6%. El cierre del negocio en el Ocean Sun Casino, de la ciudad de Panamá dieron lugar a una disminución en los ingresos y una reducción significativa de los costos, y “estamos acercándonos a una situación de equilibrio. Seguimos buscando oportunidades para vender los pisos 65 y 66 de las Torres donde se encuentra el Ocean Sun Casino”. Por otro lado, en Colombia, después del cierre del Sun Nao Casino en Cartagena de Indias, Sun Dreams ha abierto “algunas pequeñas salas tragamonedas de bajo costo para utilizar las máquinas y las mesas de juego del Sun Nao Casino. Este modelo es más apropiado para el mercado colombiano y aunque seguimos incurriendo en una pequeña pérdida, creemos que hay más potencial para expandirse en

SI continues pursuing opportunities to sell the 65th and 66th floors of the Towers where the Ocean Sun Casino is situated. Following the closure of the Sun Nao Casino in Colombia, Sun Dreams opened a few small low-cost slot halls utilising the machines and tables from the Sun Nao casino, in a model that is more appropriate for the Colombian market, “and although we continue to incur a small loss, we believe there is further potential to expand in Colombia and turn the business into a profitable venture.” The Peruvian operations (excluding Thunderbird
Resorts) increased income by 13% and EBITDA by 67% to R30 million (US$2 million). Thunderbird Resorts, which was consolidated from April 2018, contributed R54 million (US$3.6 million) in income and R8 million in EBITDA, US$530.000. The performance was below expectations in the first few months due to low win percentages; however, “the property has begun to meet expectations.”
