PROFILE

Who’s who: Andrew Dagnall This month: Bettorlogic’s CEO

When did you first get involved with the gaming industry? In a professional capacity in 2004 when I started building databases with results for six major sports – Soccer, Tennis, Golf, Cricket, Rugby Union and Formula One.

What attracted you to this sector? I have always been a bettor and was interested in creating a product that would assist bettors when deciding what bet to place on a sporting event.

Movie: The Intouchables Music: The Doors Pastime: Playing golf, music Book: My Turf, Bill Nack Pizza topping: Pepperoni Item of clothing: cowboy boots

What were you doing prior to the gaming industry? I had a sports production company for over 25 years specialising in horse racing and documentaries on other sports.

What are you responsible for in your current position?

Managing our two companies in the UK and India. My main focus in concentrated on product development and sales.

What have been the biggest industry changes you’ve seen in your time? Betting online and Betfair. Overall, the industry has not been as progressive as it could be given the technical advances that have been made this millennial.

What are the biggest positive factors for your

sector right now? The growth of sportsbooks worldwide and the gradual acceptance that they have to do more to retain their customers.

And what are the negatives ones – the obstacles to growth? The reliance of most operators on third party platform providers and the barrier that creates for product development.

Looking at your entire career, what do you think was your smartest move? Starting my first company when I was 26.

And dumbest one? Probably not selling my first company when I had the opportunity to do so but then I would never have met my wife if I had!

Where do you hope you’ll be, professionally, in ten years’ time? Long gone from the industry, hopefully, having developed the sportsbook that embraces everything modern technology has to offer. Something we are on course to achieve in 2017.

If you’d never embarked on this career, what other line of work would you have liked to pursue?

I failed at being a musician, so if I was starting over, I would be a DJ.
