GOODBYE 2016...

YGGRASIL GAMING Fredrik Elmqvist, CEO

What have been the biggest occurrences for Yggdrasil in 2016? It has been a year of industry firsts for Yggdrasil, and we are very

proud of the ground-breaking games and features we have launched. We have expanded our gamification focus over the past 12 months, which led to Missions – an innovative feature that sees players complete set goals on various slots games over a certain time-period to win big prizes. We also launched BRAG, which allows players to replay and share big wins on social media. This has only been possible due to the hugely talented team we have built over the years and the dedication and passion they bring to the company day in, day out.

What do you think was the most important occurrence for the industry in 2016? Preparing to wave goodbye to Flash. We have been Flash free since

2014, and that puts us ahead of the curve as the rest of the industry catches up. HTML5 is a much better platform from which to build games and features, offering far more flexibility than Flash. It’s also worth noting that mobile continues to drive growth. The sector has made serious progress this year, but we all need to keep developing and innovating to ensure it continues in the new year.

What are you most excited about for the industry in 2017? Seeing how operators and suppliers approach gamification. Everyone

knows what it is and what it means, but no one has yet unlocked its true potential. We need to revitalise the industry and engage players through tournaments, missions, leaderboards, progress bars and the like. It is also important to attract new players through these techniques, particularly millennials. Gamification and social gaming must be just the beginning if we are to continue growth.

What are you most excited about for your own company in 2017? We have plenty to be excited about in

2017. Our recently established parent company will establish a new epicentre in Sweden with a new Stockholm office. We continue to push into regulated markets

where we see sustainable growth. And one project we are massively excited about is Yggdrasil White Label Studios, which launched in 2016 and will begin to change the very way slots are developed next year. We plan to build on the incredible momentum we have generated in 2016, and push the business on to even greater success.

Anything else you’d like to say about the passing of 2016 and 2017’s arrival? It has not only been an incredible year for Yggdrasil, but for the online casino industry as a whole. It has experienced impressive growth, and is a healthy, exciting industry that still offers huge potential, although competition is extremely tough. I can’t wait to see how the next 12 months shake out, and where the sector will be this time next year.
