INDEPENDENT LIVING

Impey: Innovations, training, and the path to independent living

Steve Huntly A

s we navigate through 2023, Impey has embarked on a remarkable journey filled with key events and product launches that reflect the brand’s commitment to accessible shower solutions and customer empowerment. Impey’s team started the year on a high note, building on the success of the Occupational Therapy Show at the end of 2022. A multitude of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions were scheduled for 2023, tailored to various audiences, from installers to specifiers. These sessions provided a comprehensive understanding of level-access shower spaces. At the OT Show, Impey showcased its virtual wetroom environment, crafted with cutting-edge VR technology. This innovative tool was designed to showcase inclusive design, sparking interest in their 3D site surveys.

In August, the brand kicked off the Bathroom Adaptations Technical Training Tour, a series of four events featuring interactive training, discussions, and networking opportunities. This collaborative effort brought together five leading UK brands, focusing on accessible showering and bathroom product design, and proved to be a resounding success.

To illustrate the diverse design possibilities of level-access showering, Impey invested in a new portfolio of lifestyle roomset designs. These bespoke images highlighted the aspirational interior designs that can be achieved in an inclusive shower space.

Impey also made its presence felt at the Installer Show, connecting with product installers in person, strengthening relationships, and instilling confidence in their products.

As chair of the BMA’s Special Interest Group into Health and Adaptations, Steve is passionate about driving a better understanding around the integration and awareness of accessible bathroom solutions into the retail sector.

Empowering Through Training

Impey’s commitment to customer empowerment shines through its training programs. They offer a free monthly “We Are Wetrooms” online training session, hosted by Shaun Hunt, the Technical and Trade Marketing Manager. These sessions cater to individuals of all experience levels, from novice installers to interested retailers,

Impey also provides free CPD training, offering a more in-depth exploration of their products and installation options for various scenarios. These sessions are available online and in person, with bookings and enquiries facilitated through their website.

Additionally, the successful Bathroom Adaptations Technical Training Tour has wrapped up for 2023 but promises to return in some form in 2024, promising more valuable training opportunities.

The Cornerstones of Independent Living Impey recognises that the cornerstones of independent living are consideration, dignity, and individuality. Independent living means offering the right support and freedom through accessible facilities. A well-thought-out plan and careful consideration of long-term requirements are crucial for creating a settled environment with minimal future disruptions.

Impey, in collaboration with their retailers, has championed innovations that emphasize futureproofing in design. They understand the importance of longevity in designs that provide functionality for years to come. Impey’s products offer flexibility, from step-free shower access to discreet grab rails, ensuring contemporary and functional accessible bathrooms. Wetrooms can be installed virtually anywhere, making tailored multigenerational bathrooms a cost-effective choice.

Most recently, Impey has introduced a significant innovation in the form of their large-size linear wetroom dec, perfect for accessibility and modernity. This innovative design creates a turning circle for wheelchair users, offers space for shower seating, and boasts sleek aesthetics. Across the Coram Group, the UK and its European manufacturing sites are dedicated to sustainable development. They’re examining their entire business processes, products, packaging, manufacturing, and more to make improvements. Notably, Coram UK was shortlisted for a BMA Sustainability Award, recognised for their commitment to a greener future.

What Lies Ahead

As we move through the last quarter of 2023 and into 2024, Impey’s focus remains on developing their portfolio, especially with the successful launch of their larger linear decs. They will continue to expand their range of larger wetroom floor options, emphasizing space and accessibility. In addition, they plan to return with more ‘We Are Wetrooms’ training in 2024 and exciting in- person events, promising an exciting and empowering future.

In 2023, Impey has not only made significant strides in the world of accessible shower solutions but also in empowering their customers through education and support. Their commitment to innovation, sustainability, and independent living remains unwavering as they prepare to chart a promising path into 2024.
