PHAM NEWS | OCTOBER 2025 ElectricHeating 35

See what you can get with more electric options

Modern electric radiators combine precision control and sustainable design, making them a smarter heating choice, says Yann Apruzzese from Purmo Group.

As the heating industry evolves to meet the growing demand for sustainable, cost-eff ective and energy-effi cient solutions, electric radiators are emerging as a key technology in the European heating landscape. For professionals in the fi eld, understanding the advantages and potential of energy-effi cient electric radiators is therefore

When safety is a priority

The Andris Elite Wi-fi electric storage water heater has been introduced by Ariston as the successor to the Andris Lux Eco and is designed for both domestic and light commercial use. It is particularly suited to settings where enhanced safety is a priority, such as healthcare facilities and care homes. Easy to install and maintain, it provides a host of advantages

Floor-standing for commercial jobs

The Genesis Eco range of fl oor-standing electric boilers from Modutherm off ers an effi cient heating solution for commercial properties, with outputs ranging from 36 to 504kW and effi ciencies reaching up to 99.9%. These boilers can serve as primary or secondary heat sources in hybrid systems, optimising performance and reducing both capital investment. Equipped with multiple integrated stainless steel

heating elements, the boilers feature modulating heat output, allowing for up to 24 operational steps controlled automatically or externally. The touchscreen interface simplifi es installation, commissioning and monitoring, providing easy access to operational parameters. Additional features include an operational history and alarm system, USB backup, automatic restart after power failure and ample space for electrical connections. The Genesis Eco boilers also support alerts through relay outputs or building management systems. ◼ phamnews. co.uk/1025/76

essential to staying competitive and addressing client needs. Although often viewed as secondary heating options in the past, electric radiators are increasingly becoming a primary choice in homes today. As the energy grid becomes greener and consumer preferences shift in the direction of smarter and cleaner technologies, a clear trend towards electrifi cation is noticeable. There are a few key reasons for this shift: Unmatched effi ciency: Electric radiators are 100% effi cient as they convert all the electricity they use into heat without energy loss. This means they don’t produce any waste heat as opposed to boiler systems that can lose a small amount of energy during combustion and through piping systems. This inherent effi ciency makes them an attractive choice for homes and businesses prioritising sustainability.

Compatibility with renewable energy: The electricity grid is rapidly decarbonising, with renewables like wind and solar PV panels making up a signifi cant portion of the

unlike hydronic radiators that need to be cleaned and bled.

Although most people are aware

of these benefi ts, it’s still a challenge to overcome misconceptions about the design of electric radiators, especially relating to their overall sustainability and effi ciency. Modern features such as thermostats with a precision of 0.2°C, open window detection, programming, etc, are integrated in most of Myson’s electric radiators.

energy mix. This shrinks the carbon footprint of electric radiators and positions them as a top technology for achieving net-zero emissions goals. For installers, this means more demand for retrofi ts and electric radiator installs in energy- effi cient new builds. Ease of installation: Electric radiators are simple to install since they only require a power connection. This suits them for retrofi ts and renovations in older buildings.

including a new intuitive LED interface and smart connectivity via the Ariston Net app for complete control and comfort. Featuring a sturdy titanium

enamelled tank, copper heating element and faster reheat times, the unit is highly effi cient with an ‘A’ class ErP rating across all models. It also comes equipped with an

anti-legionella system, eliminating the risk of legionella bacteria developing and keeping the water healthy. It houses an additional ABS safety package with anti-freezing to ensure reliable heating even during colder months. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/1025/74

Boiler that amps up the tech

The Amptec S from Baxi is an electric system boiler to provide an energy-effi cient alternative heating and hot water solution to gas. It is available in six models ranging from 4 to 18kW. With a temperature

range adjustable from 30°C to 80°C, modulating ratio up to 9:1 and cycling of its heating elements, the boiler intelligently matches output to demand. To ensure seamless integration with a wide range

of controls, Baxi has made the Amptec S compatible with universal communication protocol, OpenTherm. The unit includes a circulation pump, an expansion vessel; this allows for reduced installation times and space saving as all pipework is inside the boiler. The Human Machine Interface (HMI) feature improves user experience and assists with maintenance and fault fi nding. Its lightweight, compact design fi ts neatly into a

cupboard 290mm deep, signifi cantly reducing the time and space needed for installation. The Amptec S comes with a 2-year warranty. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/1025/77

Economic benefi ts for the end

user: While electricity prices are generally higher than gas, the operational savings from energy- effi cient electric radiators off set the upfront costs over time. According to the EU’s Ecodesign regulations, updated standards are expected to save European consumers €7.9 billion by 2040 through reduced energy consumption and improved performance. No maintenance: Electric radiators require no maintenance,

Battery powered alternative

Luthmore has developed a battery- powered, tankless boiler designed to provide a zero-emissions alternative to gas combi systems. The Luthmore was created by two former Dyson engineers and is designed for use in small to medium-sized homes where traditional heat pumps may not be viable. The system delivers instant hot water at 30kW and central heating at 10kW, comparable to the performance of conventional gas combis. The boiler operates using six

Li-ion phosphate batteries. These batteries allow the unit to store electricity from the grid or solar panels during off -peak hours and release it as needed. It does not require a fl ue or tank, and its compact design is compatible with

According to Nabeel Javaid, Myson’s market and application specialist: “These features avoid wasting energy and allow users to tailor their heating system according to their needs, for optimal comfort and energy effi ciency. And, thanks to modern technology, we now have smart electric radiators whereby the temperature settings can easily be managed via a tablet or smartphone using the Unisenza Plus App, ensuring the exact amount of heat wherever and whenever you want.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/1025/73

existing pipework and radiators. Will Jameson, commercial and

corporate director at Luthmore comments: “After four years of development and rigorous testing, we are so excited to bring this pioneering technology to market. We represent a new way of heating homes in a cost eff ective, sustainable way, without sacrifi cing the performance and ease of set-up associated with a classic combi boiler.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/1025/75

Radiator has the halo eff ect

The Halo Electric from The Radiator Company is made using 122mm steel fi ns and is available in three widths (1,015, 1,515 and 2,015mm). Being fully electric, it can be placed independently of existing pipework and positioned either horizontally or vertically. The steel construction allows the radiator to heat up and cool down quickly, responding effi ciently to changes in demand. Its slim profi le makes it suitable for restricted wall spaces, and it is off ered in 188 RAL colours and two special fi nishes, with matte white provided as standard. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/1025/78
