Energy effi cient solution for higher heat loss homes

The Ecodan R290 heat pump range from Mitsubishi Electric has been enhanced with the introduction of new models with outputs of 8.5, 10, and 12kW. This follows the earlier release of 5kW and 6kW models in October 2023. The updated range is designed to provide effective heating solutions for larger homes and properties with higher heat loss. The Ecodan R290 heat pumps use the natural refrigerant R290, which has a low global warming potential of 0.02. This makes the system an environmentally friendly option for home heating. The pumps can deliver flow temperatures of up to 75°C, making them suitable for homes that may not be able to undergo significant insulation upgrades. They are also compatible with existing microbore pipework, facilitating easier integration into current heating systems. These heat pumps are engineered to operate efficiently in extreme cold, functioning in temperatures as low as -25°C. They have also been designed for quiet operation, achieving Quiet Mark accreditation to minimise noise disruption in residential settings. The new Ecodan models feature smart controls, including MELCloud connectivity

Update enhances ease of installation

Designed to make installation easier for installers, Sentinel has announced an update to its Vortex300 heating system fi lter. The revised design enhances the ease of installation while maintaining strong debris collection performance. The Vortex300 features a redesigned

top collar that allows for easier opening during service without the need for tools. The fi lter includes a new dual-seal arrangement that enhances leak protection on both the collar and T-piece, eliminating the need for seal replacement after servicing. The updated design also provides a more premium appearance and feel, said to contribute to a higher quality experience during installation. A notable feature of the updated Vortex300 is its interchangeable faceplate, which allows users to

The PEM750 heat pump has been designed by Navien for the UK market to provide an effi cient and eco-friendly heating solution, intended for both new housing and retrofi ts. The heat pump operates

eff ectively in temperatures as low as -20°C and can supply hot water at temperatures up to 75°C. Running on R290 refrigerant, it boasts an ERP rating of A*** and a Seasonal Coeffi cient of Performance (SCOP) of up to 4.87 under optimal conditions. Navien provides a digital touch

screen controller and a smart app for user-friendly management of settings and monitoring of energy usage.

Additionally, the

PEM750 operates at a low noise level of 42 dB, making it quieter than many gas boilers. Sean Keleher,

technical director at Navien UK, comments: “We recognise the challenges faced by industry professionals when adapting to low-carbon heating. With the introduction of the PEM750, we are delivering an innovative, high- performance heat pump that is simple to install, highly effi cient and fully supported by training and Navien’s expertise.

Using AC system grey water to fl ush

Targeting commercial hotels and offi ce buildings, the eco-cistem is a toilet cistern designed to conserve fresh water by using grey condensate water for fl ushing. It operates by redirecting condensate water

produced by air conditioning units, which typically would be disposed of through waste pipes. This grey water is collected and stored in the cistern, allowing it to be used for toilet fl ushing. The cistern has a patented twin-chamber design that holds up to 12 litres of condensate water, supplemented by a standard 6-litre chamber for fresh water. Grey water is prioritised for fl ushing, only resorting to fresh water when necessary to ensure eff ective performance. As air conditioning usage increases, particularly

due to climate change and improved building thermal effi ciency, the potential for water savings becomes signifi cant, as even small air conditioning units can produce over 1 litre of condensate per hour. Manufactured in the UK, the eco-cistem is designed
