Heat pump solution for luxury homes
Grace Homes, a luxury property development company building properties in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire, has integrated air source heat pumps from Mitsubishi Electric at its Sysonby Lodge development in Melton Mowbray. Sysonby Lodge includes
a courtyard of mews-style properties, detached and semi- detached homes and ten luxury residences in a renovated Grade II-listed lodge. Each property has been equipped with an Ecodan heat pump, alongside other sustainable technologies including photovoltaic solar panels and battery storage. This approach has allowed
Grace Homes to achieve the highest Energy Performance Certifi cate (EPC) ‘A’ rating, which align with the UK government’s Future Homes Standards.
Continuous fresh air in apartments
MVHR (mechanical ventilation heat recovery) systems from EnviroVent have been specifi ed by Bridgestone Construction for its latest development of new build residential apartments in Manchester. The energiSava 200 ceiling-mounted units were selected for 348 apartments, which the company supplied over a three-month period. Bridgestone Construction
Peter Hutorka, construction
director at Grace Homes, says: “We spent a lot of time researching the best sort of hardware that would work for us, and we felt that the Mitsubishi Electric product, being a market leader, was really the way to go.” As part of the collaboration,
Mitsubishi Electric provided design support with detailed heating and hot water system
drawings for each property. The technical support team off ered ongoing assistance, including troubleshooting and video consultations, to ensure smooth project execution. The heat pumps were installed
by Nigel Smith Plumbing & Mechanical Services Ltd, an accredited installer that had completed approved Mitsubishi Electric training. ◼

Swindon Borough Council’s housing tenants are set to benefi t from enhanced safety through a programme replacing existing fi re and carbon monoxide alarms with upgraded Aico devices. The new 3000
Alarm system enhances tenant safety The four-year, £10.5m upgrade
programme, which started in September, has so far seen new devices installed in 1,190 council-owned properties. Alongside these
Series alarms will be fi tted with sensors that detect heat, smoke and carbon monoxide. The units will replace existing devices with the ability to send notifi cations to the Council when they need testing, repairing or replacing, using Aico’s Ei1000G Gateway. Tenants will also have the option to receive these alerts via a downloadable resident app.
new alarms, approximately 10% of all the properties benefi tting from the works will also receive Aico’s EI1025 Environmental Sensors, which measure temperature, humidity, and
carbon dioxide levels. These will provide the Council with real-time data and alerts, enabling them to take proactive measures to maintain safe and healthy living spaces. ◼

chose to work with EnviroVent as the company’s technical specialists were able to solve the challenge of having a suffi ciently powerful ventilation unit whilst meeting the space saving requirements of the project. EnviroVent recommended
a ceiling rather than wall- mounted ventilation unit. The energiSava 200 system was able to deliver the desired performance within a more compact unit.
Air source sustainability
Ideal Heating has designed a sustainable heating system for a luxury residential development in the North East. Logic Air heat pumps will be used throughout the exclusive Stoney Wood development at Wynyard Village in County Durham. The development of 76 homes
will feature a mix of premium three, four and fi ve-bedroom properties and is being delivered by Cameron Hall Homes. It’s the latest venture from entrepreneur Sir John Hall’s Cameron Hall Group, known for landmark projects including the Metrocentre retail and leisure destination in Gateshead and the revival of Newcastle United FC. Jamie Hooton, head of sales at
Cameron Hall Homes, says: “Future- Press fi t system in easy-to-fi t copper
A new self-build eco-friendly house in North Berwick, Scotland, has incorporated >B< Press fi ttings from Conex Bänninger into a large plumbing installation. The four-bedroom home,
which includes four bathrooms, has been constructed using insulated concrete formwork (ICF) – an ‘in-situ’ concrete system of building which is wrapped with insulation material before any concrete is poured in. TKS Plumbing Services
undertook much of the domestic services element of the development and advised the use of Conex Bänninger’s >B< Press, a copper press-fi t solution for the pipework rather than using plastic fi ttings and materials.
Director Lewis Knight
comments: “We have used >B< Press fi ttings on many projects over the past three years and know that the job only has to be done once with this product and the speed of installation means that there are signifi cant time savings. “Hours of planning were
undertaken with the client prior to the work commencing, which has taken us three and a half weeks. This included completing the balanced domestic water supplies, drainage supplies, the heating supply runs and the feeds to the bathrooms. We have in the process used hundreds of >B< Press fi ttings, which have all crimped expertly. The house
proofi ng our homes with reliable and sustainable heating technology was a key focus for us. We wanted to ensure our properties meet the needs of the modern homeowner while also aligning with long-term environmental goals. Ideal Heating’s Logic Air heat pumps were the best choice.” ◼

includes shower rooms in three of the bedrooms and the offi ce. “A signifi cant amount of
piping has been installed in the home comprising some 180m of 15mm, 120m of 22mm and 40m of 28mm. >B< Press was used on the fi rst fi x for the water and heating supplies and on the second fi x in the plant room prior to the air source/hot water cylinder going in.” The eco elements of the home
include triple glazed windows, a heat recovery ventilation system and solar panels. Everything will run on electricity and any generated excess will be collected in storage batteries. Downstairs accommodation includes a large open plan kitchen/ lounge / dining room, as well as a number of other relaxation spaces. ◼

EnviroVent also faced the
challenge of how to enable the installer to commission and connect the condensate without needing access to the ceiling void. To address this, the ventilation manufacturer recommended the client utilise a remote commissioning pad for the energiSava 200, which made the process of commissioning the unit much easier in a confi ned space. As installer access was no longer needed, the hatch into the ceiling could be made much smaller. ◼
