Clever solutions for concealing pipework

Exposed pipework can really ruin the look of a job, but there are solutions that help achieve a neat and polished look in plumbing installations. Talon’s Dean Heathfi eld explains why fi nishing around pipework should never be an afterthought.

in the details. Homeowners and professionals alike want that neat, seamless look that speaks volumes about the quality and fi nish of the job done. Sometimes fi nishing around pipework is sadly neglected, undermining the overall look and potentially compromising the integrity of the installation in the eyes of your customer. But there are some straightforward solutions available that are both easy to install and off er the clean lines and design fl ow that homeowners desire. In areas of high visibility

W

like bathrooms and kitchens, where towel rails and radiators often feature prominently, neat pipework is an important part of the fi nished job. However, with the focus often on the main fi xtures, the accompanying pipework can be left looking unfi nished and unattractive, detracting from the sleek appearance of the new installation.

Over exposed Snappit by Talon, for example, is a simple solution that quickly covers exposed radiator and towel rail pipes, leaving a neat, clean fi nish. It is a great mess-free alternative to painting and is quick and easy to install: simply measure the exposed copper pipes, mark the measurement on the product and, using a hacksaw, simply remove what you don’t need. Then push the Snappit into place until you hear a click, add the collar and job done. The product is made from the

highest quality grade uPVC and, unlike paint, is UV stabilised so will not discolour, chip or fl ake. It has a 10-year guarantee and is available in multiple lengths, widths and colours including chrome, anthracite grey and black. The Radiator and Radiator Tail kits come with a 15mm pipe sleeve in 2 x 200mm lengths and 2 x 18mm pipe collars while the Towel Rail Kit still features the 15mm pipe sleeve but in longer 500mm lengths, again with 2 x 18mm pipe collars.

Discreet cover Exposed pipework can really stick out as an ugly blemish in spaces that otherwise refl ect careful design choices and personal style. Unfi nished pipes leave a room looking incomplete, suggesting a work in progress rather than a polished environment. They can also collect dust and become a cleaning nuisance, detracting from the cleanliness of the home. Talon’s Single and Double Pipe

Covers quickly neaten up the appearance of exposed pipework. Available in extruded white uPVC, using quality grade material rated to a UL94 V0 fl ame spread rating, these pipe covers are resistant to both mild acids and alkalis and have excellent resistance to weathering so are suitable for both interior and exterior use. Available in 15, 22 and 28mm, they can simply clip over Hinged Clips, requiring no extra tools.

 The FlueSnug not only ensures an attractive fi nish but also delivers an airtight seal that aligns with Part L of the Building Regulations

External walls Pipework entering and leaving a property is another problem altogether. Unfi nished holes around pipes can be unsightly, detracting from the visual appeal of a property’s interior or exterior. These areas are prone to air leakage which impacts energy effi ciency by allowing warm air to escape and cold air to enter, resulting in higher heating costs. Openings around pipes can also allow water to seep into the building structure, potentially causing dampness and mould growth, while holes around pipes are an invitation for pests like insects and rodents to enter a home. Pipe seals, such as PipeSnug and

FlueSnug, have become game- changers in both aesthetics and function for the construction and plumbing industry. These easy to install seals, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, deliver

an airtight fi nish within seconds, without the mess and eff ort of traditional sealing methods such as mortar or sealing tape. Their quick installation not only provides a polished, professional look but also aligns with the rigorous standards of Part L of the Building Regulations, which now requires pipe seals and grommets to be used around pipework.

Industry endorsement With approvals from leading boiler manufacturers including Ideal Heating, Worcester Bosch and most recently, Baxi, FlueSnug can be removed and replaced eff ortlessly, making maintenance and safety checks

A neat seamless look speaks volumes about the quality of the job done

simple and quick. Its design also allows for installation from inside the building, cutting out the need for costly scaff olding, PPE and enhancing overall job safety and effi ciency.

Neat fi nish Neat pipework is more than just an aesthetic preference; it represents the care and precision that has gone into the installation and is the hallmark of a professional job, ensuring that every aspect, down to where the pipe meets the wall, is considered and refi ned. Using products that fi nish around pipework leaving it as neat as the rest of the room off ers a subtle yet signifi cant upgrade to the overall look. In the process, installers can save time and eff ort. In a market where every detail counts, pipe covers and seals are not just accessories; they are essentials for any installation that aims for excellence. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/224/34
