Heat load calculator
User advice
A new Instagram account dedicated to homeowners has been launched by Grant UK. The @GrantUK_ Home channel will share consumer focused content, from advice about choosing a new heating system through to post-installation support for looking after installed products. The platform will share useful
blogs about heat pumps, hybrids and HVO as well as handy advice about getting their home prepared for a low temperature heat pump. For existing users, it will also share tips about how to maintain their heating systems and advice about how to keep it running as efficiently as possible.
A new Heat Load Calculator tool has been launched by MCS. The online tool enables MCS certified heating installers to conduct BS EN 12831-1: 2017 compliant heat load calculations, essential for the Heat Pump Design Standard (MIS 3005- D) and the Biomass Installation Standard (MIS 3004). Users will be able to perform room-by-room
heat load
calculations, ensuring proper sizing for heat pumps or biomass systems in line with MCS Standards. It features guidance prompts and real-time support to streamline the process, aiming to reduce errors and improve efficiency. After completing calculations,
users receive a report that can be saved or downloaded for quotations, audits, and compliance checks. Each MCS certified installer will have an account to share calculations within their business. Access to the Heat Load Calculator
is exclusive to MCS certified installers and those currently seeking certification. The existing Excel-based tool is still available but will no longer receive updates. ◼

Donation boosts community support
The Holy Trinity Night Shelter in Bishop’s Stortford is the first to receive one of 15 new boilers from Worcester Bosch, celebrating 15 years of the Which? Best Buy endorsement. Local installers can nominate non-profits or deserving individuals for this initiative. Nominated by The Boiler Installation Specialists,
the shelter, the only one in East Hertfordshire, initially required just a boiler but was found to need a complete heating system refit. Worcester Bosch worked alongside the installers to provide a new, upgraded system, enhancing living conditions for those staying there during the cold months. ◼

Winner of the golden boiler
Sheffield-based plumber Nigel Kay is celebrating being the winner of Ideal Heating’s golden boiler giveaway. Nigel, who has been in the trade for nearly 40 years, was surprised to find the golden wrap when unboxing a new Logic boiler, signifying it as the winning
free-of-charge five-millionth Logic boiler. Nigel, who has been
self-employed since 2005, comments: “When I opened the box and saw the golden wrapping, I couldn’t believe it! It’s not every day you find a golden boiler. Ideal boilers are reliable, easy to install, and well-priced. They’ve always been a big part of my work.” The picture shows Nigel (left) with Ideal Heating area sales manager Liam Richardson shortly after finding the golden boiler.
