THE RIGHT THING

Weldtite is a British bike maintenance product brand leading the way on sustainability. BikeBiz spoke with managing director Paul Davis, to hear more about the company’s sustainable future

ustainability is more than just a buzzword. While some brands across industries may view sustainability as convenient marketing, or maybe even as a nuisance, many companies in the bike industry are truly moving forward towards a greener future. One of those brands at the forefront of sustainability is

S

Weldtite, the cleaning and maintenance product company based in North Lincolnshire. Perhaps best known for its puncture repair kits, Weldtite now makes a full catalogue of products for all cyclists, regardless of their discipline.

But of course with its in-house production at its facility

in Barton-upon-Humber, Weldtite also faces some unique challenges when it comes to environmental protection and sustainability, but the company continues to improve its practices for a more sustainable future.

Major steps “We drive sustainability into our products because it’s the right thing to do,’ said Weldtite MD Paul Davis. “We have recycled all paper and cardboard across Weldtite for over a decade, but we know there is always more to do. In summary, everyone at Weldtite is always challenging ourselves to match the aspirations of riders whom we know value low carbon products and sustainable transport.” So how is Weldtite matching the expectation of consumers? The brand is currently tracking all aspects of its carbon footprint (“if you don’t measure it, you can’t improve it,” said Davis) and has plans to achieve net zero, as soon as technology realistically allows: manufacturing on-site requires a significant amount of energy, which makes achieving net zero a serious challenge for a company like Weldtite.
