MANAGEMENT

Media director Paul Ryder

pryder@datateam.co.uk

Last month, we hosted our first Cycling Industry Assembly in partnership with Fusion Media and The Bicycle Association, with support from Bristol University and Fi Spotswood. Part of it involved discussing e-bikes, their opportunities and safety. We touched on the E-bike Positive Campaign and heard from participants about their involvement with electric bikes and thoughts on terminology.

This issue is centred around e-bikes and micromobility, covering everything

from shared use to campaigns. We also hear about new developments and legislation surrounding e-scooters. Looking to the future, now is a good time as any to mention the E-bike Summit we’re hosting in London next April (26 April to be exact). We hope to bring together a wide range of people, from local authorities to MPS and anyone from brands to shared transport operators. We’d love to get as many people involved as possible, have important conversations, inspire action and find ways in which we can work together more collaboratively as an industry. Going back to the Industry Assembly, the idea behind it was the central question: ‘How can we better understand, engage and serve cycling’s existing and emerging audiences to unlock future growth?’ We do a very good job of talking to our existing audiences, but we don’t always do a good job of connecting with others. I feel like we don’t always do a very good job of talking to each other. That’s where the idea came from. Nothing beats human connection and conversation in person. It’s something we hope to foster, grow and expand. We want to connect the industry and find new ways to work together, grow and gain new perspectives. It’s another reason we also launched ‘Trade Talk’, a new platform for industry

voices. I think there’s space for unfiltered conversations (within reason) from inside the trade so we can hopefully identify and solve wider issues. But also, once again, start conversations. If you have something you’d like to share (it can be anonymous), email me at ljenkins@datateam.co.uk. It’s not designed as a promotional tool; it’s to give anyone the chance to talk about anything they’d like to bring up (good and bad). In short, it’s a way to temperature-check how we’re doing and give everyone the chance to have a say.
