What factors influence your purchasing decisions, and what product types are currently in demand? We have to admit that there is much more of an appetite for bicycle component parts over accessories, but we buy all types of items. I would say that recognised brands will always be the strongest purchase for us. Drivetrain, tyres and other service items are always in demand, and we’ve had the pleasure of supplying hundreds of regular customers with low-cost inventory over the last six years.

What are the main benefits for customers who choose to sell excess inventory to TMP Parts? As we said before, the ease of working with us is at the forefront of everything we do, and we are very reactive to customers’ needs. Whether it’s a small lot or a large bulk purchase, every enquiry gets the same level of immediate attention and a quick decision or quote/offer. No distance is too far for us to view stock either (having done Scotland and back in a day once), and even overseas is no problem for us to deal with.

store returns, business closure/receiver stock, ex-production factory componentry, shop closures or overstocks, etc. If the vendor has a live stock spreadsheet, that’s always beneficial, but we are always happy to quote an arbitrary figure, usually looking to take everything if it benefits the seller and always ready to go and view stock at a moment’s notice. All stock is sorted on entry into our warehouses and listed for resale, and we try not to waste any of the stock, but inevitably, there will be items that cannot be sold, but we always recycle the materials where possible, diverting most items from landfill.

What are your plans for the future, and how are you adapting to the changes you see in the cycling industry? We have always been in growth mode and continue to want to build the business as an asset to the industry, forming long- term relationships as we go, but most importantly, helping to create strength and predictability in our trading partners’ businesses. As an example, for one of our larger distributor partners, we operate a system for disposing of their warranty and shop returns, taking in pallets on a regular basis and creating a fixed stream and outlet for these items – saving time, resources and space. We would welcome more of this type of thing and we are currently looking to expand our staff as we speak – in both the bike shop and parts business as we see the future of cycling as a strong one - remembering the many kids bikes we sell next door are used by the cyclist customers of the future… 
