NEW PR EDITOR’S PICKS 2022

BikeBiz editor Alex Ballinger shares some of his favourite products launched this year

NEW PRODUCTS

2 1

1 Cannondale Topstone Alloy

While the recent trend across the cycle industry has been the soaring costs of bikes, some brands have been putting in a welcome focus on more entry-level price points - including US bike brand Cannondale, who recently introduced a more affordable spec of its popular Topstone gravel bike.

The Cannondale

Topstone alloy is a rugged and comfortable build, which fits up to 45mm tyres, is compatible with a dropper post, and features plenty of mounting points. Gravel riding’s major appeal is accessibility, and with RRPs starting at £1,100, the Topstone Alloy helps lower the bar to entry for would-be gravel riders.

2 Whyte unveils new e-MTB, with improved handling and cornering

Already an rapidly- expanding market, one of the most exciting e-bike disciplines is currently the e-MTB scene. Whyte’s new version of

the e-160 is a prime example of the versatility and potential offered by this new wave of electrically assisted off-road machines. Designed with the help of British Enduro champion Sam Shucksmith, the e-160 is fitted with a Bosch Performance Line motor system, and comes in three wheel configurations, and six colours. The recommended retail

price ranges from £6,399 to £7,999 depending on the build.

3 Tern’s NBD e-bike

Alongside the developments in the e-MTB ranges, the utility sector in the e-bike market continues to be a huge opportunity for cycling businesses to reach a whole new audience. With more businesses

and parents embracing the e-cargo revolution, Tern is at the forefront of the e-utility scene. The release of the Tern

NBD, designed to be accessible for smaller or older riders, aims to reach consumers who may struggle with conventional e-bikes.

The NBD comes with some stand-out features like a low centre of gravity and longer wheelbase to improve handling, all in a compact bike with 20” wheels and folding handlebars. Prices start at £4,000, and bikes are due to land in bike shops in Q1.

4 Brompton introduces new T Line weighing just 7.45kg

4

Brompton Bikes represent much of the best of the British cycle industry. The clever design, emphasis on innovation, and strong marketing all contribute to Brompton being a regular best seller in bike shops (see p19 for more on Brompton’s popularity in Bristol). With the release of its

lightest ever model, the T Line, weighing just 7.45kg for the single speed version (7.95kg for the four-speed), Brompton hit on a winner. RRPs start at £3,750, making this is a major purchase for any consumer.
